Westward III is an adventure game in which players must build and maintain a town from a small settlement during the California gold rush. It's not the most fun or attractive game we've ever played, but users who enjoy games of this type may find Westward III worth trying.

The premise of the game is that three settlers who've been aided by the Baron family during their trek west have promised to help the family on their farm in return. Players choose between the three settler characters, each of which has different strengths. Playing as that character, the user performs the tasks of helping the Baron family and growing their homestead into a booming town, managing food and water supply, employment, law enforcement, and more. Upon starting the game, users will find a nice-looking interface housing menus and options, but the interface of the actual gameplay isn't so hot. It's not terrible, but the graphics aren't of particularly high quality. We found controlling the movement of each character to be awkward and annoying; perhaps it's designed as it is to be more challenging, but we got tired of waiting for our characters to walk around. The beginning of the game is rather dull, filled with such tasks as wood-gathering, barn-fixing, and tent-building. We're sure that it gets more interesting later on, but we couldn't experience it, since the trial version is only 60 minutes long. The built-in Help file is well-written and thorough. Overall, we didn't find the game particularly engrossing, but it's worth a shot for users who like life simulation games.

Westward III installs and uninstalls without issues. We recommend this program to all users.
