"Froze my desktop for 5 days; lame help from tech people"

    July 24, 2010  |   By mrmcgs

Version: Webroot AntiVirus with AntiSpyware & Firewall 6.1

    Pros

It worked well for 9 months....

    Cons

The program icon in my system tray said "loading" and froze my desktop. The only way I could do anything was in safe mode. I wasted three days with their tech people whose ideas for fixing it were completely simplistic and lame.

    Summary

With my desktop frozen the only way I could do anything was in safe mode. I couldn't uninstall it because it said it already had been uninstalled; I couldn't reinstall it because it said there was already a version running. I eventually restored the system to a former date, bought a new registry cleaner. reinstalled the program in safe mode; uninstalled it in safe mode; shredded all the documents, and ran the registry cleaner. The ironic thing is that all this had been done 3-5 times before. I'm not sure why it eventually all worked. Maybe the new registry cleaner? Maybe the order I did everything? Anyway, it is finally off, and I will never buy anything from them again. I believe this is a known issue with this software.

"keeps my computer clean and free of unwanted stuff"

    July 11, 2010  |   By joedthomp

Version: Webroot AntiVirus with AntiSpyware & Firewall 6.1

    Pros

antivirus and antimalware work as I want them to! Keeps my computer free of virus and maleware.

    Cons

takes about 20 to 30 minutes to run full scan.
    customer service needs much improvement.

    Summary

I have used webroot for 6+ years and it has kept my computer safe and clean of virus and maleware.
Fortunately Antivirus with Spysweeper works so well for me that I don't have to deal with Webroot customer service.
I will continue using Webroot Antivirus/Spysweeper as long as it works this well. Excelent product except for customer service

    "Not Impressed At All"

    July 9, 2010  |   By bearcatpride

Version: Webroot AntiVirus with AntiSpyware & Firewall 6.1

    Pros

Great at catching the little stuff, but buckles like a belt with trojans and other serious threats

    Cons

Claims that items in the quarantine list cannot harm your computer... well apparently in my case they can.

    Summary

Mediocre at best... dumped the program today and I'm now using Malwarebytes... which is a far superior product IMO

    "Very satisfied with this product"

    June 24, 2010  |   By RoadHogger660

Version: Webroot AntiVirus with AntiSpyware & Firewall 6.1

    Pros

This program runs very smooth in the background with other programs running. The updating and automatic scanning work flawlessly - never had a problem in the 4 years I have had Webroot's Antivirus program. The Cleanup program is great.

    Cons

I miss the right click file scanner when using Windows 7 64 bit.

    Summary

Excellent value for the money. I have tried other premium scanners, I always go back to Webroot.

Version: Webroot AntiVirus with AntiSpyware & Firewall 6.1

    Pros

for the 3 months that it worked, it WORKED!

    Cons

it suddenly shut down at 3 months. emails to company never returned, phone calls on hold for 2 HOURS, before I finally hung up! I assume they have gone out of business, and that is why they have not responded. Don't buy this product!

"I've used this product but worthless"

    May 29, 2010  |   By nielagahanemo

Version: Webroot AntiVirus with AntiSpyware & Firewall 6.1

    Pros

Better than Symantec about RESOURCES not the virus scanner

    Cons

This product is the worst Anti-virus I've ever used. It doesn't seem to catch all my viruses.

    Summary

I've used this product for a week and then I've seen the resource usage is good but the virus scanning is bad, I have a infected computer with a bunch of malware and it doesn't remove all the malware... Need to use ESET Smart Security to remove them all.

I don't know why toptenreviews.com rated this product as number 1

    "Shuts down without notice!!!"

    May 21, 2010  |   By halfemptyheart

Version: Webroot AntiVirus with AntiSpyware & Firewall 6.1

    Pros

    easy to use

    Cons

doesnt scan when scheduled, doesnt update when scheduled, does not detect everything

    Summary

We bought 3 new computers from best buy in february and was talked into going with webroot since the anti virus we wanted was out of stock. I have it scheduled to update once a day and scan on fridays, it does neither. I just checked it yesterday and saw that if hadn't updated in over two weeks or scanned my computer. This is the 3rd time it has dont this. At first i thought it was because my computed goes to sleep after 30 min so i set it to never sleep and the program still does nothing. Our laptop was just detected with a major virus from a support tech from hp and it will cost us over 100 dollars to fix . HP told us that webroot was horrible. Point is dont get this program its not worth it and you will have better luck with AVG or avast.

"Shuts down and is useless unless you pay the vig!"

    April 11, 2010  |   By floyddabarber

Version: Webroot AntiVirus with AntiSpyware & Firewall 6.1

    Pros

Basic AV program that catches most but not all.

    Cons

Usurious business practices -- the program completely disables to uselesss unless you pay the annual $40 extortion fee.

    Summary

$40 retail to renew, and if you don't renew the program and pay the $40/year then the program simply stops operating. Oh, it will run a scan still, but only reports what it finds -- the ability to delete or quaratine the invasion is disabled. This is akin to buying a car from Ford Motor Co., and after 3 years you must now pay them a users fee or your car will only start but not shift into "Drive". Completely moronic.

What the heck? Did Intuit buy Webroot? For the past number of years, Intuit has taken to disabling key features in their Quicken product unless you pay their extortion fees after 3 years run out. Seems Webroot thinks this is a good business model to emulate. Newsflash: It sucks.

My Webroot subscription just expired and I will NOT be renewing. Only if Webroot's unseemly business practices start to impact their bottom line wil they perhaps realize that it is time to change.

none, did not work for me.
