      "It works, very responsive support"

      June 13, 2014   |   By HarmonyLoveBeauty

      Version: Web Confidential 4.2

      Pros

A very convenient way to handle passwords, easy to use

      Cons

It's not a fancy user interface but very functional and works nicely

      Summary

I've been using this application for over 12 years. The integration with Dropbox is a very nice newer feature for backup and automatic syncing between computers. Newer password managers may have more automated features and browser integration, but plain and simple is often a better choice. The developer Alco Blom gives very prompt and helpful support via email. The user interface, although not flashy, is very compact in terms of screen real estate.

      "Was great now not"

      January 22, 2012   |   By noirmouton

      Version: Web Confidential 4.0

      Pros

Not as whizzbang as 1password, but gets the job done.

      Cons

On a network today with the email ports blocked all Web Confidential could do was crash. As soon as I hooked up to my iPhone network it was fine again. I've got little snitch installed and it said nothing but I'm not sure that Web Confidential isn't sending info to Alco (the programmer). So I'm not impressed.

Additionally this program was put into deep sleep for years until recently when it broke on 10.7. Now it's had a very minor upgrade so that it works again and presumably we keep sending our money in. If the programmer is going to treat his customers as such it's time to move I'm afraid.

      Summary

Don't bother, the programmer has a bad attitude to his customers and the program itself may be sending your confidential information to him.

"Neither WC nor Alco are dead"

      July 03, 2007   |   By levinedr

      Version: Web Confidential 3.7.6

      Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I was alarmed at some of the posts in which people vented frustration with lack of updates, especially regarding release of Universal Binary. These issues have not bothered me personally, because WC continues to function for me (MacPro, Intel, dual 3.0 running 10.4.10) quickly and in its usual rock solid manner. It continues to sync with my Palm Treo giving me access to all of my data anywhere I travel (although my new iPhone makes that a mute issue). In many years of use, zero problems with this program and prompt replys to all of my inquiries made from time to time of Alco. So, I too was puzzled by his low key posture recently.
So, I emailed him and got a response, as usual, within a few hours. Turns out that Alco has been ill, but appears to be on the mend and remains intent on delivering a Universal Binary version of WC and remains committed to the program. I do not, however, have specifics or a timetable. BTW, I do not know Alco personally and have no relationship to him professionally.
I agree that Alco would benefit from some public relations consultant advising better communication with his customers, but other than that I have full faith in him and his product.

      "Yes. Need custom categories"

The ability to create different or delete existing categories would be great. I really need to be able to customize this app with categories I need and not have to look at the many default ones that don't apply to me.
That is my only problem with this fine program.

      "Great updates"

I have used this product on my Mac and Palm for years. It really is Pantherized now and really reflects the GUI of a modern Mac app. I strongly recommend people buy this and the Palm app also.

As well as making continued changes to maintain compatibiility with many changing browsers, Alco continues to add enhancements for power and ease of use. I also use the companion Palm version so I always have my info with me. Integration with his powerful URL Manager Pro makes my online life easier every day of the week. Great products and GREAT SUPPORT!

      "Great program, superb support"

      June 19, 2004   |   By epc

      Version: Web Confidential 3.7.2

      Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I have also used Web Confidential for a few years now. At first I was using it to store login information, since I was using The Serial Keeper for my software information. After switching to OS X I kept using Web Confidential more and more, since The Serial Keeper (which is also great) was not available for OS X at the time. Anyway, as time passed I found myself using Web Confidential more and more to store and organize different types of information. I've had to contact Alco 2 or 3 times over the years, and his response has always been prompt, friendly, and helpful.

"A mature program with great support"

      June 07, 2004   |   By levinedr

      Version: Web Confidential 3.7

      Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I've used web-confidential for several years now. I had occasion this week to problem solve an issue by querying the author. He promptly solved the issue (corrupt preferences) and all is well again. This program is rock solid stable (important when storing passwords), intergrates with browers etc. and is easily printed for hard copy backup. What more could one reasonably need?

      "I love it !!!"

      June 01, 2004   |   By Corentin

      Version: Web Confidential 3.7

      Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I've been using this app fir a very long time and I love it! I couldn't live without it. The latest version (3.7) brought some very welcome improvements.

    • The search toolbar item makes finding my passwords and serial numbers really easier (I have a lot of entries in the app)
    • I don't really use the Action button, but that seems to be the trend now since MacOS X 10.3
    • The Preferred browser is really useful for these few sites that only accept IE :-\
    • despite the fact some people try to stay away from it, I do *like* the brushed-metal interface :-)))
    • This is really a nice new release of one of my all time favorite apps :-)) You can add on top of that that the author is very responsive to suggestions and does his best to fix issues you might find as fast as he can - I really have nothing to complain about!!!

      "Can't recommend"

      May 28, 2004   |   By PeterNSteinmetz

      Version: Web Confidential 3.7

      Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I tried both this and PasswordWallet. I could never get the conduit to work with the Palm for WC. It kept crashing. Remove the conduit and the crashes go away. (To the developer's credit a refund was provided, but it was still a big waste of time).

Also, the UI seems like a pre-Cocoa UI that has not really been updated for X. And fixed categories and numbers are not so flexible.
