"Great little app!"

March 28, 2007  |  By VersionTrackerUserOpinion

 |  Version: WeatherPop Advance 2.6

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I have used this smart little application almost from the beginning. I think it was the only of its kind then, but still it is the best I think. I check for updates from time to time, and there is alway a new one, so I wish I could be notified about updates automatically. And as another one said here, I miss a check button in the preferences to make the application start automatically when logging in.

"It works just fine..."

Summary

Running always current Mac OS X system software on a G5 dual tower, a G4 desktop and a G4 laptop, this app works just fine, and has worked well for years. No problems at all. And it's great.

What it lacks is built in version checking, and a preference for starting on login so we don't have to manually add it to start up items. But those are minor grievances. WeatherPop is very well designed and maintaned. The best of the lot, and I think I must have tried them all.

WeatherPop is great. I bought it over two years ago, and updates are still free for me (including Weatherpop Advance, which I almost feel is too generous). I think it's near perfect.

"WeatherPop Quit on me twice"

September 28, 2006  |  By janiesohmer1

 |  Version: WeatherPop Advance 2.5

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I have used WeatherPop Advance for quite a while and really like its function. What I don't like is that when it decides it's had enough of your computer it just quits and there isn't a thing you can do to get it back. Right now it's sitting in my Applications folder looking perfectly good but when I try to re-launch it to mount it on my menu bar it will not respond. For a long time I used a free version but decided to pay for WPA. I don't think I'll pay for it again until they fix the inconsistency problems. If I'd written this 2 weeks ago I would have recommended it but now I just cannot.

"Works fine."

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I've had troubles with earlier versions not keeping wunderground as the primary source. That problem seems to be fixed in v2.4. The best fix that I found for the earlier versions was to use Property List editor to enter wunderground in each of the four source fields (thus deleting any possible access to weather.gov, usatoday, or aol. Development, documentation, and support are not great, but it does the job (well!) for me.

Almost the first thing I noticed was that I was getting some HTML garbage where there should have been some weather information. I'm not impressed after having bought this long ago; it is pretty much the same sort of thing as before.

"Great as always"

Summary

I've been using Weatherpop since its initial release. It's still the best of the menu weather utilities out there, and unlike some of the posters, I have never encountered any issues with the data parser. From Washington, to Tel Aviv, to Beijing, the data comes through without a hitch.

"An old app, glacial development"

July 18, 2006  |  By Central Scrutinizer--2008

 |  Version: WeatherPop Advance 2.3

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
WeatherPop used to be the best. It was the first and only weather application on my Mac for ages. I've not had the reliability problems experienced by others here, but more recently I began to get nonsense weather reports, so I searched for a replacement.

I settled on Meteorologist, and never looked back, since Meteo is packed with more features, and is more reliable in its weather reports. Best of all, Meteo fetches radar maps and displays them in the menubar menu, a feature I find indispensable. Since I have a WeatherPop license, I check back now and then to see if the developer has added any competitive features, like radar maps. Alas, WeatherPop seems to have been abandoned with no signs of resurrection. Too bad, because its developer is certainly capable of producing a polished product.

I had to give WeatherPop one star on price, because it's competition is all free, and Dashboard includes a weather widget.

"Increasingly Unreliable"

June 29, 2006  |  By remixed

 |  Version: WeatherPop Advance 2.3

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
This used to be a really nice utility but hasn't been updated for a while. The program has become increasingly unreliable in that it does not obtain the weather data correctly, instead it gets confused and delivers html coded garbage. The program itself is stable, it just isn't getting the data correctly.

"Great and Small"

April 02, 2006  |  By starwynd

 |  Version: WeatherPop Advance 2.3

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
This may not be a fully functional desktop weather station, but it does have a certian charm about it. It can be tempermental at times. I like having the temperature in my menu bar, with a little icon giving me an idea what its doing outside. I like being able to click on it, and seeing a drop-down menu of the current conditions, along with a brief five-day outlook.

This program is very simple and easy to use. It may not be feature-ridden, but it works wonderfully.
