"Web Of Trust WOT is terribly flawed unreliable & unsafe"

    May 26, 2013  |   By WPJackson

Version: WOT (Web of Trust) for Firefox 20120926

    Pros

    I can't think of one

    Cons

    Unsafe
    Unreliable
    Unprofessional

    Summary

Where do I begin. I put this plugin on my childrens computer and it made it unsafe for their browsing. Their ratings just cannot be relied upon. Explicit pornographic sites are shown as EXCELLENT and CHILD SAFE? If they can't get that one thing right, then what good is it if they can tell me that Google and CNet are safe? We already know that. Instead I feel I am putting my children at risk by letting My WOT track them around.

After uninstalling MYWOT - I tried to find alternatives and found a few good ones like Norton and McAfee and few others. I also learned how crooked MyWOT is as a company.

"MyWOT is a SCAM. Stay Away!!"

    May 26, 2013  |   By SuperHero58

Version: WOT (Web of Trust) for Firefox 20120926

    Pros

They have a large userbase, which is actually a bad thing.

    Cons

Single power user rating can override community rating. PowerUsers are also moderators, and so they abuse the system. They remove comments from others that are against them. MyWot owners Sami Tolvanen, are on record for abusing site ratings themselves. Communications with their management and users shows MyWOT is run by a highly unprofessional group of people.

They rate several porn and bad sites as great, which defeats the purpose of why anyone would use their tool in the first place.

    Summary

They deserve the lowest rating - here's where you give your 2-cents worth:

"Web of Trust Lies and Slander"

    May 5, 2013  |   By glorysurgery

Version: WOT (Web of Trust) for Firefox 20120926

    Pros

    The mission statement.

    Cons

High level users will smear you and list negative reviews. If you try to combat it, it will only be worse. Listing here probably will completely diminish any hope of having any truth about our website see the light of day.

    Summary

Do not list you website here. Consider AVG.

    "Pure spyware"

    May 1, 2013  |   By ChdeLang

Version: WOT (Web of Trust) for Firefox 20120926

    Pros

    View the opinion of sites

    Cons

    You're being watched
    Can't disagree with staff
    Can't disagree with power users

    Summary

There are many issues with this company which have already been mentioned, but my biggest problem is the actual product is spyware. Everything you do is recorded by WOT and the best thing you can do it completely uninstall it.

The company has fancy offices in Helsinki and yet displays no advertising and has no official way to fund itself, except by selling your personal data. The only way this company exists is by selling all of the data it collects.

If you want a trojan horse on your system, install the WOT addon.

    "Unreliable"

    April 3, 2013  |   By cwatson69

Version: WOT (Web of Trust) for Firefox 20120926

    Pros

None that I can think of. Terrible!

    Cons

I had used this for a long while but have found that you can't trust their ratings any better than not having it at all. You think risky sites are ones with porn or spam - but it also includes sites that they don't like their political views. I've uninstalled this on all my browsers.

"WoT is flawed beyond belief, I know because I'm a user"

    April 3, 2013  |   By Kraftwerks

Version: WOT (Web of Trust) for Firefox 20120926

    Pros

Allows you to rate sites anonymously and basically ruin their scorecard without needing any knowledge of the site whatsoever.

    Cons

You can't rate a site below a 1 and further ruin a sites reputation.

    Summary

I'm one of the main users of WoT, I'm a contributing user at their forums and rate sites by the dozens low on an hourly basis.

Why? Because WoT was flawed from inception and everyone knows it.

But no one will do anything about it.

We can run wild and do as we please and no consequences will ever happen to any of us. CoG, Scientific Frontier, many others can attest to this.

We're like a faux hacking group, just without the know how to do more harm.

Why am I here stating this? I've rated CNET very low and for the icing on the cake I'm telling all here - even though nothing can stop me or WoT!

That and I just really, really don't care.

    -Kraftwerk

    "Ruining good and honest websites"

    March 18, 2013  |   By JJJ84

Version: WOT (Web of Trust) for Firefox 20120926

    Pros

You can make money selling ratings, if your a crook

    Cons

Ratings that don't make sense, by anonymous users. Not only about safety, malware and privacy but they also use moral standards to rate a website (ie religion and game preferences?)

    Summary

Stay far away from WOT and let's hope it will just go away

    "Unfairly rates websites"

    February 5, 2013  |   By eglassell

Version: WOT (Web of Trust) for Firefox 20120926

    Pros

Still occasionally useful in flagging dangerous or phishing websites.

    Cons

Its intended usefulness has been compromised by fascists who abuse the system. WOT now unfairly rates legitimate companies whose products may compete with those who blacklist them, or who hold different political, religious, or even scientific views! It makes it difficult to do research on opposing viewpoints.

    Summary

Still occasionally useful in identifying websites actually dangerous to one's computer, it is now set up to be a thought police and product or industry protectionist tool.

"The Worst Company, Program ive come across"

    January 12, 2013  |   By tinablk13

Version: WOT (Web of Trust) for Firefox 20120926

    Pros

no pros at all for this company

    Cons

appears postive ratings for mywot.com are very rare, they flag and bash company website without doing any research into what they find suspicious, they refuse to change rating even when there concerns are no longer online. Forumn experience like dealing with a bunch of kids. Bad ratings that are not up to date can stay on a clients website for years even when findings are incorrect or based on an opinion.

    Summary

Stay away from the program all you have to do is google the company and you will see the bad press they have, terrible.

"Great if you want to damage a well run web site."

    November 11, 2012  |   By tonerT

Version: WOT (Web of Trust) for Firefox 20120926

    Pros

-buys facebooks fans for their site
    -dropped by facebook
    -fraudulent reviews on mywot website
    - could be children reviewing your site

    Cons

Good UK sites got reviewed by an European who clearly had very little understanding of UK web sites and labeled each site with the lowest possible rating even though these sites all had secure SSL certificates and were PCI Compliant, had over 25000 positive feedback from customers had also been trading for years with no problems.

    Summary

This should be policed or dropped, it is a disaster and does nothing to promote smaller based web sites. It seems as soon as one person gives a poor review all the other reviewers just click the same score so suddenly a great web site can have their great reputation ruined forever. It should be left up to the likes of Goggle and other search engines to review where a web site appears in search results.

    Updated on Nov 30, 2012

Warning to all Webmasters and SEO Company's - WOT - (Web of Trust).
This Company from Helsinki claims to offer:-
"Would you like to know which websites you can trust?"
What they don't tell you is anyone, even children, can end up rating a web site. Anyone can play at being GOD to devastate well run legitimate web sites. When you sign up with WOT they encourage you to rate more sites so that you increase your activity score which gives you an increased weighting on your reviewing. We had four well established web sites based in the UK, that where all PCI compliant and each site had its own SSL certificate. Along came a reviewer based in Italy and suddenly all our sites where branded "WARNING THIS SITE HAS A POOR REPUTATION BASED ON USER RATINGS". To make matters even worse, as one user brands your web site as POOR along comes all his chums and they also click the agree box, so now your are really in a difficult situation.
WOT Said "We cant Do Anything to Help"
