"Cannot trust ratings at all on this system"

    June 6, 2013  |   By CanadianMoondog

Version: WOT (Web of Trust) for Firefox 20130515

    Pros

    Sorry, cannot think of one

    Cons

The rating system is completely user level weighted and therefore if one individual doesn't like another and they have a far greater user level, they can make a rating that damages the other persons rating to such a level that they can never fix it. I have seen several individuals do this to others on this site simply because they wound up in an argument with another member.

Once you are registered and have registered your site with them, you can never remove it and google displays the ratings.

    Summary

Used to be a good system but has been has been overrun by people who like to push others around.

My advice is to stay as far away from this system as possible.

    "Used for political censorship"

    June 3, 2013  |   By ChdeLang

Version: WOT (Web of Trust) for Firefox 20130515

    Pros

A good idea in theory, horribly implemented

    Cons

    Used to censor political opinions
    Used to censor alternative thinking
Used to censor people they dislike

    Summary

The system of WOT (Web of Trust) is misleading. Contrary to their mission to provide average ratings from users, the ratings are actually of their moderators which (if numbers add up), spend 23 hours per day rating sites without actually inspecting them.

To add to its shenanigans, WOT usually likes to rate any competing services as "extremely harmful" and claims them to be "unsafe for children".

"Horrible plugin and forum. Takes pleasure in lying."

    June 1, 2013  |   By phoenixgymbkk

Version: WOT (Web of Trust) for Firefox 20130515

    Pros

Nothing. Their message and promise seem great, but it does nothing it states.

    Cons

The forum is a group of moderators that make personal decision on wheather your site is harmful based on nothing. They like to make lies and bogus comments out of joy. Offers no protection.

    Summary

Skip this and stick with something like AVG, AVAST, or Advance System Care for actual protection. Do not submit your website there.

    "False reportings"

    May 29, 2013  |   By judywei

Version: WOT (Web of Trust) for Firefox 20130515

    Pros

Nothing that I can tell. It is just used to bash businesses.

    Cons

High level users dictate wheather a website is "harmful" or not. No moderation and false reportings.

    Summary

I first went to this website to leave a comment for another website that was false reported. This then brought attacks to my website. I dont see a way to have your website's reputation improved after their high level users slander it. You will just be marked as spam if you try to comment favorably. Support does nothing to help. They do more on here to try and hide these comments.

"Web Of Trust WOT is terribly flawed unreliable & unsafe"

    May 26, 2013  |   By WPJackson

Version: WOT (Web of Trust) for Firefox 20120926

    Pros

    I can't think of one

    Cons

    Unsafe
    Unreliable
    Unprofessional

    Summary

Where do I begin. I put this plugin on my childrens computer and it made it unsafe for their browsing. Their ratings just cannot be relied upon. Explicit pornographic sites are shown as EXCELLENT and CHILD SAFE? If they can't get that one thing right, then what good is it if they can tell me that Google and CNet are safe? We already know that. Instead I feel I am putting my children at risk by letting My WOT track them around.

After uninstalling MYWOT - I tried to find alternatives and found a few good ones like Norton and McAfee and few others. I also learned how crooked MyWOT is as a company.

"MyWOT is a SCAM. Stay Away!!"

    May 26, 2013  |   By SuperHero58

Version: WOT (Web of Trust) for Firefox 20120926

    Pros

They have a large userbase, which is actually a bad thing.

    Cons

Single power user rating can override community rating. PowerUsers are also moderators, and so they abuse the system. They remove comments from others that are against them. MyWot owners Sami Tolvanen, are on record for abusing site ratings themselves. Communications with their management and users shows MyWOT is run by a highly unprofessional group of people.

They rate several porn and bad sites as great, which defeats the purpose of why anyone would use their tool in the first place.

    Summary

They deserve the lowest rating - here's where you give your 2-cents worth:

"Web of Trust Lies and Slander"

    May 5, 2013  |   By glorysurgery

Version: WOT (Web of Trust) for Firefox 20120926

    Pros

    The mission statement.

    Cons

High level users will smear you and list negative reviews. If you try to combat it, it will only be worse. Listing here probably will completely diminish any hope of having any truth about our website see the light of day.

    Summary

Do not list you website here. Consider AVG.

    "Pure spyware"

    May 1, 2013  |   By ChdeLang

Version: WOT (Web of Trust) for Firefox 20120926

    Pros

    View the opinion of sites

    Cons

    You're being watched
    Can't disagree with staff
    Can't disagree with power users

    Summary

There are many issues with this company which have already been mentioned, but my biggest problem is the actual product is spyware. Everything you do is recorded by WOT and the best thing you can do it completely uninstall it.

The company has fancy offices in Helsinki and yet displays no advertising and has no official way to fund itself, except by selling your personal data. The only way this company exists is by selling all of the data it collects.

If you want a trojan horse on your system, install the WOT addon.

    "Unreliable"

    April 3, 2013  |   By cwatson69

Version: WOT (Web of Trust) for Firefox 20120926

    Pros

None that I can think of. Terrible!

    Cons

I had used this for a long while but have found that you can't trust their ratings any better than not having it at all. You think risky sites are ones with porn or spam - but it also includes sites that they don't like their political views. I've uninstalled this on all my browsers.

"WoT is flawed beyond belief, I know because I'm a user"

    April 3, 2013  |   By Kraftwerks

Version: WOT (Web of Trust) for Firefox 20120926

    Pros

Allows you to rate sites anonymously and basically ruin their scorecard without needing any knowledge of the site whatsoever.

    Cons

You can't rate a site below a 1 and further ruin a sites reputation.

    Summary

I'm one of the main users of WoT, I'm a contributing user at their forums and rate sites by the dozens low on an hourly basis.

Why? Because WoT was flawed from inception and everyone knows it.

But no one will do anything about it.

We can run wild and do as we please and no consequences will ever happen to any of us. CoG, Scientific Frontier, many others can attest to this.

We're like a faux hacking group, just without the know how to do more harm.

Why am I here stating this? I've rated CNET very low and for the icing on the cake I'm telling all here - even though nothing can stop me or WoT!

That and I just really, really don't care.

    -Kraftwerk
