VueScan 7.6.77 for Mac User Reviews
-
"Would be 5 stars but for one small glitch"
Version: VueScan 9.0.37
Pros
It does everything well and is constantly updated (too often in fact).
Cons
It does not recognize my printer/scanner (Xerox Workcenter 3119) that is always connected and turned on: I have to quit Vuescan, turn off the scanner, turn it back on, restart Vuescan. This ends up representing a LOT of wasted time and effort.
Summary
I signaled this problem many months ago and hold my breath with each of the numerous updates, but so far the problem persists....
-
"Excellent, and always has been excellent"
Version: VueScan 9.0.36
Pros
Keeps up with computer and scanner changes.
Cons
Does not make coffee.
Summary
I started to use VueScan when HP dropped Mac support for their scanner, and have used it ever since. They do not charge for upgrades or anything else and it keeps up with my changes in Macs and scanners.

"excellent and reliable scanner-driver!"
Version: VueScan 9.0.30
Pros
easy color handling
Cons
handling a bit complicated due to many possibilities
Summary
the best I ever used
-
"Fantastic!"
Version: VueScan 9.0.29
Pros
Can use it with my (no longer supported by Nikon) Super CoolScan 4000ED film scanner and also with my Ancient Epson Perfection 2450 Photo flatbed scanner.
Not to mention it is consistently updated and upgraded.Cons
Needs way better documentation, tho it does take some serious dedicated time to figure out all its bells and whistles.
Summary
Does what it is advertised for plus more, and doesn't cost a small fortune! :)
-
"Hit-or miss reliability, sorry customer service."
Version: VueScan 9.0.26
Pros
Couldn't make the VueScan software work professionally. Had to buy SilverFast instead.
Cons
Bad customer service - and that says it all.
Summary
I bought VueScan 7.6.48 back in 2003 for a UMAX PowerLook 3000, and have since been discouraging as many people as possible from buying any products from Hamrick. That's how bad my experience was. I have been a professional graphics expert since 1989, having used scanners since then. When I contacted the developer regarding debilitating bugs in his software, he replied to me very arrogantly, suggesting I go to a beginner's site for tips on scanning. Considering his software had mathematical errors built in, this person does not deserve anyone's business. Of the dozen-or-so scanner applications I've used, I have never wasted money on one that was so nonstandard and flawed in its enlargement and resolution algorithms. I'm sure there have been improvements since 2003, but the customer service for this "company" is non-existent. The developer refuses to believe he could make mistakes in his programming, and belittles you if you suggest otherwise.

"Best thing since sliced bread""
Version: VueScan 9.0.24
Pros
Easy to use
Cons
none that I have encountered in 5 years
Summary
The developer absolutely stays on top of the market changes in software. Would never use another product for scanning
