"Visual Prolog = "Programming in Logic" Visually"
Version: Visual Prolog 7.3 build 7303
Pros
Create fast executable programs which process logical data ("knowledge"), facts and rules. The IDE creates a skeleton program that you can expand to fit your needs. Createicons, toolbars, bitmaps, dialogs and forms in the IDE.
Cons
The initial learning curve is a little steep for developers who have not been exposed to Prolog programming, but one you get the concepts of "backtracking", "failure" and "binding" of variables you to solve problems with a minimal amount of coding.
Summary
Visual Prolog (VIP) is a development tool you should have available if you do a significant amount of text processing, expert system development, logical processing of information, etc. See the web site for delivered commercial applications. VIP has been available since the 1980's as a DOS product ("Turbo Prolog" briefly marketed by Borland), and more recently develped and marketed by Prolog Develoment Center. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visual_Prolog for more information.
Weaknesses are small community of users and unfamiliar non-procedural approach to program development.
Strengths are the small amound of logical code (as opposed to procedural code) required to solve relatively complex logical problems.
