    "Didn't find it of much use"

    Pros

    - allows playback of some files on some players

    Cons

    - lot of extra stuff you won't need

    Summary

    All you really need is install the latest stable revision of ffdshow tryout, and:
    (1) configure it to work with your favourite media players
    (2) configure the libavcodec to handle most if not all video formats.
