This utility restores data you have deleted or can't access due to hard-disk corruption. In our testing, it managed to find files we deleted off the pen drive long ago. Although VirtualLab Data Recovery works on most forms of formatted and damaged media, including digital cameras, it does not support CD and DVD recovery. The interface is a bit confusing at first, but it carefully guides you through the restoration process. To focus your search, you can specify the name, type, time characteristics, or size of a lost file, but you can't search for text. You can preview the found files, including JPEG images, before recovering them. The trial version doesn't allow you to save found files, however. The main issue is that you install a client the company's server commands over the Internet. On the one hand, you pay only for the files you restore at a rate of $100 per GB. On the other hand, you may encounter Internet costs and security issues--and if your Mac doesn't boot at all, you're out of luck.Publisher's description
From BinaryBiz :If you've lost data, VirtualLab Data Recovery Software is the professional choice for getting it back. VirtualLab is non-destructive data recovery software that recovers deleted files, damaged or missing volumes, and even formatted disks. An exhaustive scan of the drive is performed to locate lost partitions and files. Your data is presented in a finder-like view of files and directories so you can copy your lost files to another safe location, such as a networked or FireWire drive.
VirtualLab lets you recover your data for free and shows you the files it's found prior to purchase. VirtualLab recovers data from hard drives, CD-ROMs, external devices (Zip, Jaz, and SyQuest drives), digital camera cards, and iPods. Classic support for PowerPC and even Classic OS 9 is included. Version 3.9.1 now supports Intel Macs.

Cons: pricing was too much, found boomerang instead

Version: VirtualLab Data Recovery 3.9.1
Pros: It's effective at finding every bit that is recoverable, unless it's been overwritten
Cons: incrementally functional in terms of "quota". You get ONE MEGABYTE of free "quota". Want to buy more quota? it will cost you $80 for one gigabyte.
Summary: Too expensive.

Version: VirtualLab Data Recovery 3.9.1
Pros: Seemed to find my files from a 400GB WD HDD that quit responding
Cons: Once it finds your data you are then promoted to buy the program. You must buy online storage space to back up your data.
Summary: Horrible bait-and-switch. I will never bend to this tactic, if you are going to offer something for free then do so, otherwise be up front about it. I will never support this company or purchase any products and I encourage you to do the same
