Publisher's description of VirtualLab Data Recovery 3.8.6

From BinaryBiz:

If you've lost data, VirtualLab is the professional's choice for getting it back. VirtualLab is nondestructive data-recovery software that recovers deleted files, damaged or missing volumes, and even formatted disks. An exhaustive scan of the drive is performed to locate lost partitions and files. Your data is presented in a finder-like view of files and directories so you can copy your lost files to another safe location, such as a networked or FireWire drive.

VirtualLab lets you recover your data for free and shows you the files it's found prior to purchase. VirtualLab recovers data from hard drives, CD-ROMs, external devices (Zip, Jaz, and SyQuest drives), digital camera cards, and iPods. It's compatible with Mac OS X and OS 9 (Classic). Version 3.8.6 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, and bug fixes.

  • "Rescue data"
  • Version reviewed: VirtualLab Data Recovery 3.8.6
This utility restores data you have deleted or can't access due to hard-disk corruption. In our testing, it managed to find files we deleted off the pen drive long ago. Although VirtualLab Data Recovery works on most forms of formatted and damaged media, including digital cameras, it does not support CD and DVD recovery. The interface is a bit confusing at first, but it carefully guides you through the restoration process. To focus your search, you can specify the name, type, time characteristics, or size of a lost file, but you can't search for text. You can preview the found files, including JPEG images, before recovering them. The trial version doesn't allow you to save found files, however. The main issue is that you install a client the company's server commands over the Internet. On the one hand, you pay only for the files you restore at a rate of $100 per GB. On the other hand, you may encounter Internet costs and security issues--and if your Mac doesn't boot at all, you're out of luck.

    "Worked Great!"

    by n4bbq on March 2, 2005

Pros: I thought I had backed up every file on a teacher's computer before formatting and reinstalling the OS. Afterward, she couldn't find certain AppleWorks files. VirtualLab found and recovered every one of her documents (105 of them) after the drive had been initalized and reinstalled with OS 10.3.

Cons: You never own the product. That is a bummer.

    "The best in this category!"

by centampcrepair on May 15, 2006

Pros: The silver bullet, I am telling you! This program recovered what I thought was lost permanantly. I tried the others, Restorer, GDB, you know.. the lower priced ones. Blech. Did not work, and I lost all that money and got bad files. Bummer for me. So, I thought, why not try one last thing, and that was VirtualLab. And guess what? Yep, I was able to get my data back! I am so happy! AAAIIEEEE! YIPPEE! HOORAY! So, the moral of my story is that you have to spend more money for a more quality data recovery. I firmly recommend this product and the company that produced it. It gave me everything I expected and more, and the whole process was very easy and uncumbersome to complete. In fact, there was not even a 'delivery' period involved. The moment I paid I was able to save the recovered data. What a delight! Cheers

"Recovered it all! **A MUST HAVE!!**"

by johnnyj on April 17, 2005

Pros: After Norton and Winternals failed Virtual Lab came through. The support was great and the product recovered 360 shots that could not be replaced. I would highly recommend this program. Side note. Winternals was unable to locate a single file!

    Amazing!

My data was recovered and I was back where I belonged in LESS THAN AN HOUR!

    "Great Tool"

    by MP000114 on April 7, 2005

Pros: This program is really amazing. I like the ability to select and create file profiles and the cost was reasonable for the great result. It was also useful to see the data by double-clicking on the files before purchasing so I knew the data was good.

Cons: Ordering "sessions" is different than other similar products, but this was the only one that worked, so go figure.. get what you pay for sometimes.

"*** A True Innovation in Data Recovery ***"

by MentalGenuis on May 5, 2005

Pros: VirtualLab is beyond brilliant. This program found files that I was sure I'd never see again. I was able to preview the availability of my lost data without spending a dime. VirtualLab also allows you to recover a small sample of your data in order to make sure that the program will work properly for you. The best thing about this program is that you don't have to send your drive anywhere. All of your "lost" files are recovered right there before your eyes. The customer service was great and I highly recommend using this program for all of your data recovery needs.

Cons: NOTHING, NADA, ZILCH.. It's ALL GOOD!
