Virtual Album Maker Standard is a virtual photo album maker that allows users to easily create attractive electronic photo albums. Although it's not the most sophisticated program we've ever seen, its ease of use makes it a good choice for this type of task.

The program's interface is particularly intuitive, walking users through each step of the album creation process. There are several templates to choose from, including calendars and collage-style albums. Users then customize the album cover and background, choose music (the program comes with a handful of MIDI files, or users can use their own songs), select the photos they want to include, and then choose how they want to save the album. Album makers that are this automated typically do not offer a whole lot in the way of customization, and Virtual Album Maker Standard is no exception, but it does offer multiple backgrounds and the ability to upload others. We also found it helpful that the program includes some very rudimentary photo-editing options, including brightness control and a cropping feature. The program has a poorly written online Help file, but it's really not necessary; we didn't find anything that we had questions about.

Virtual Album Maker Standard has a 20-day trial period, and the trial version disables some features and puts a watermark on its output. The program installs desktop icons without asking but uninstalls without issues. We recommend this program to all users, particularly beginners.
