"It's easier to get rid of malware than uninstall Vipre!"
Works in the background
Misses some malware
Technical Support can be slow and unhelpful
Can wipe out valid programs
Updates other programs behind your back, even when instructed not to do so
Won't uninstall properly
I've used Vipre Pro for a couple of years, but recently it let in malware. I asked for technical support and, after a delay, got a response containing just a link to a page on their website which basically boiled down to "It's probably the fault of Microsoft or some other program, so contact them". I protested strongly and finally, after a couple of days, got hold of someone who was prepared to help. This was far too late for me as I obviously needed to use the computer (for work, apart from anything else), so by that time I'd uninstalled Vipre (or so I thought...) and installed other protection. However even this hadn't been easy as parts of Vipre were still there and stopping some antivirus trials installing. I tried using a Vipre clean-up program as well, but still no joy. Apart from other problems, I'm being prevented from visiting some (legitimate) websites and, because Vipre isn't installed, I can't whitelist them as I did when it was installed. Every time I try to uninstall Vipre using heavy-duty clean-up programs, I'm informed that Vipre isn't installed...
Vipre has also, during its life with me, wiped out programs on memory sticks without warning - uninfected and legitimate, if small and idiosyncratic, programs and tools which I needed.
