Editors' Note: The Download Now link will prompt a local download of the Firefox extension. To install the extension directly, open the file using your Firefox browser.
It takes one more step than we'd like, but this free Firefox add-on allows you to view cookies on any given Web page. It worked well for us, but it took us a few minutes to figure out how to access it.
When we first downloaded View Cookies, it wasn't readily apparent how we were supposed to access it. We had to visit the publisher's Web site (which is more of a personal site than a professional one) to find out where to locate it. As it turns out, it's located in the Page Info dialog box under the Tools menu. An extra tab is added to the box after installing this plug-in. The interface is simple. The cookies are displayed in a small window, with detailed information about each cookie listed below, and two buttons for either removing one or all cookies. You can view cookies for every page you visit by accessing the View Cookies' window. The buttons to remove them are activated when a cookie is selected, and worked without any issues.
It would have been more convenient to offer a toolbar or status bar shortcut icon to access this freeware program, or at least a bit of user guidance. Still, View Cookies worked well, and is suitable for all user levels.
View Cookies adds a tab to the Page Info dialog box, which shows the cookies of the current Web page. This is interesing for developers, privacy-concious users and others.
