"Great Quick Editor for WTV and other video"
Version: VideoReDo TVSuite 3.1
Pros
- Very easy to use, works with Windows Media Center recoded TV
- All needed tools in one package, this is a major plus!
- Commercial Scanner lightening fast and accurate
- Very fast authoring edited show (Cuts only)
- Fast authoring if recode required.
- Very flexible DVD Menu Options
- Can remove ads in 30 min show in about 5 mins (all in)
- Does not recode if all you do are cutsCons
- A LOT of settings, thankfully the defaults seem to do fine (I am not sure this is really a con)
- The Help expects you to know the termonology and know how it applies. It is a little techie given how easy the user interface is for editing.Summary
There are a lot of good things to say about VideoReDo TV SuiteV4 H.264 (VRD). I can't speak to the million settings, my goal was something to easily and quickly remove commercials from TV shows I record using Windows Media Center (WMC) and a Hauppauge Win-TV board. (.wtv files)
After intalling I was looking at the first show in seconds, it found my "Recorded TV", I figured if I needed a manual it was likely going to be too complicated, so I just went at it. The first show was a 30 minute TV show with 4 blocks of commercials.
The Auto Ad-Detect took 42 seconds to find and mark them for cutting, 2 spots it marked it did not mark for cutting, they were ads but I guess it was not sure so it marked start and end, so setting it to be cut was fast. Used a couple minutes here looking at what it marked and didn't. it did not miss any.
So now I picked Author & Burn DVD, after looking at a daunting number of options, just hoped all that other stuff was right and said go.
It took it only 30 seconds to author (cut the marked spots and prepare the files to burn to DVD, and 4 minutes to burn and verify the DVD. (Not that I would normally do this for one show)
The next thing I tried was putting a bunch of shows on one DVD, in fast mode it can fit 4 30 minute SD shows on one DVD, if you put say 6 (as I did for a test), I still ended with an average Bit Rate of 5Mbps (roughly SD TV quality). So you can cram as much on a DVD as you are willing to give up in quality.
I picked batch mode and went and let it find all the commercials in the 6 shows, that took 5 minutes, then it took a 14 minutes to process and write to DVD, all in all pretty good. That is half the time it took me to do it on my Panasonic DVR.
With the trial key you get a 100% functioning 15 day trial, all features the same as the paid version so you can really kick the tires before you shell out the 95 bucks this cost, an almost unheard of price in utility software these days. However compared to the time and effort of dealing with multiple tools to do this one thing, it is actually a very good price. You get Multi-Format Video Editor, Joiner, DVD Authoring Tool w/Burner, video format converter, native .wtv video support, cuts without recoding, smart automatic Ad detector.
It does a bunch of other stuff, converting formats and such, but if your goal is removing commercials, then this is a great product deserving of a 5 rating.

"Best TV/Video editing available. Easy & works. TiVo too"
Version: VideoReDo TVSuite 3.1
Pros
Actually TiVo compatible. Easy and customizable tools. Works on more file formats than any other product I've tried (Roxio, Nero, Real). Good email based customer service. VideoReDo is the only software that meets my video editing needs.
Cons
It lacks the breadth of functions of major brand media suites, but it makes up for it by being the best at video.
Summary
VideoReDo is best for those who only want to do video editing of imported files. The user interface is the most intuitive of all the video editing software I have ever used. The combination of on-screen tools and customizable keyboard commands allows for quick navigation through a file. I'm down to about 5 minutes to manually edit out all the commercials. If you want automated, there is a commercial removal tool; but my experience is that it works completely about 19/20 of the time. Thus, I just manually edit anyhow. That said, it is the best automated commercial removal tool I've used. The options can seem a bit overwhelming when setting, but the options menu is well segmented and the help files are clear and answer most questions (an occasional web search for an unfamiliar bit of terminology was all I ever needed).
Unlike some name brand editors, VideoReDo actually works with TiVo files (TiVo desktop must be installed on the same computer for proper decoding). Quickstrem Fix tool quickly separates video streams of different resolutions.
I've purchased two different versions of Nero, two of Roxio, and even tried the paid upgrade for RealPlayer. None of them ever quite did what I needed, or the functionality was buried in non-customizable UIs. I quit using those and went to NCH software's free editor (VideoPad) for a while. But VideoReDo is the only one that does everything for video that I need.
People complain about the price, but let's have some perspective: I've purchased enough other pay-for titles to buy another TiVo, and those guys never met all my needs and never did what they said they would (work with tivo files). VideoReDo wasn't only the easiest, but it did what it claimed. Between free titles from NCH for data & music burns, slide-show creation, voice-overs, and then paying for VideoReDo, I do everything that Nero or Roxio does for about $25 less than Nero or Roxio. You can complain about the price of VideoReDo, but I say it is worth it to have the right tool at the right time.
I've been using VideoReDo TV Suite for about eight months, and I am glad to have spent the $75. And when I build my i5 system, I'll pay $75 again. It is rare that I am this happy with a piece of software.

"The best commercial add cutter i have seen"
Version: VideoReDo TVSuite 3.1
Pros
This program will cut a add in a 30 minute video from start to finish in less than 3 minutes.
Has a accuracy off 99.99 % in less than 5 minutes Video saved to disk.
It is a Super Super simple program to use.Cons
To pricey that's why i gave it a 4 instead of a 5.
Even Microsoft knows you can sell 100 times more product at $50.00 than at $100.00. That is why you see most of windows upgrades at less than $100.00Summary
It does what it is advertised to do.
I have found no bugs very simple to use. -
