Version: VideoPad Free Video Editor and Movie Maker 5.20
By Neddie Coates
A dream to use straight out of the box.
None that I can see.
I bought a gopro 4 and needed to do a school project for my daughter. The gopro quik is a total disaster. Clearly put together by an idiot. Another free one was equally useless. This software saved the whole thing from being canned. As soon as I get a job again I'll be buying the software as a thank you

Version: VideoPad Free Video Editor and Movie Maker 5.04
Can't speak to everyone's trivial concerns but have been using other NCH programs/apps for years without issue...just downloaded this one and had to splice together 3 separate vids into one...did not need any special effects. I've looked at and tried other splice, cut, modify programs over the years and I can say without fear of contradiction this is definitely one of the most intuitive, easy to pick up program I have used in this genre. Only took a few minutes to pick up and ended up with a perfectly spliced video. This is Program/app is nothing shy of a great program or beginners and possibly some medium level users...yes it's a try and buy if you like but well worth it...and yes I will be buying it...
Thank You NCH....
None that I can glean from working with it on a 3 video splice that took only minutes to piece together...remember..it always takes time to render a video once you've completed the work you want done
We are sorry to hear you are having these issues. I will pass along your review to our development team to look into it. If you have any more problems, you can quickly and directly message our support team here: http://www.nch.com.au/support/supportcontact.html?software=VideoPad

Every time that I drag a video into it, I get a message that the video does not exist. It have tried numerous videos, but always get this message. I can only assume that it is not ready for OSX Yosemite.
Good for converting video files that won't play on certain programs, such as Windows Media Player.
Works completely differently from previous version.
I hate learning curves. I was very happy with Videopad for Windows 7, but that doesn't work on Win 8. Maybe they improved the program, but I can't use it. I've tried their own video training as well as going on Youtube, but I can't figure it out. Old version was easy: you could drag the video onto its field, click the beginning arrow, click the ending arrow, push the down arrow, then go again until finished. I'm told that isn't the way it's supposed to work, but it did the job for me. Now, you have to be a film editor to make it work. Hey NCH, can't you just release a version that works like the old one, but works on Win 8?
Easy upload for audio and video files, excellent effects library for transitions, and easy to use as a beginner.
audio lag when uploading video from webcam, and if fine-tuning is needed, then it is not so easy to use.
The only reason it gets a three instead of a four-star rating is because the finished product for a project using a webcam came out pixelated, choppy, and out of synch. Otherwise, if using it for basic editing of home videos, it's a good program.
- Easily joins together bits of video footage or images - Has a built-in music library, only available when bought
- Has to individually convert each file, which is very slow and inefficient. - Sometimes photos will only appear for a split second, then turn black or change to the next slide, no matter what duration has been set. - Is very slow at everything. - Preview window is very small and laggy.
Great for small projects, but large source files take a while to be converted to and from the editor. It hogs most of the CPU, for not much speed, and slideshows are likely to bug out. Once the performance is improved it will be worth re-downloading.
Sorry to hear of these issues. I believe our developers have fixed them. If you continue to have issues please contact our support team: http://www.nch.com.au/support/supportcontact.html?software=VideoPad
it has all the functions i will ever need, including adding filter effects from other developers. many filters compatible with Virtualdub are compatible with this one.
good rendering quality in AVI format.
it allows you to choose video and audio codecs, and choose video bitrate and frame size, before saving the movie.
you can add more audio tracks if you wish, and it's very easy to move them forwards or backwards to synchronize them.
the free version allows you to save in a few formats only, and the most usable one (with good quality of video) is AVI, rendering in WMV results in a very poor quality.
if a video filter is not compatible, the program will crash.
i read from people all the time that this software doesn't work, but i've been using it for years and you better believe that it works, but it's not perfect. if you use it to render videos in AVI format, it will work perfectly. this is far superior than WMM, it still beats me why it's free.
