    "Great Software!?????????"

    November 23, 2014  |   By TheUselessBiscuit

Version: VSDC Free Video Editor 2.2.2.323

    Pros

?Well, there are a lot of different features and tools that I can't use with other video-editing software, it's easy to use once you learn, and it's perfect for what I do!?

    Cons

It's pretty complicated at first (though you do get used to it) & it takes a while to open the program and to export videos.

    Summary

All in all it's a great program that I highly recommend using! After a quick hiccup with my computer I had to use a different video-editing program for a while, and in all that time I longed for the volume control and other functions.

"Simple trim, cut, split, merge of video and images!"

    November 22, 2014  |   By andrulai

Version: VSDC Free Video Editor 2.2.2.323

    Pros

VSDC in a excellent choice for easy creation of slick education, information or promotion videos. An interesting alternative to Adobe Creative Suite Design Standard (especially After effects).

    Cons

t's NOT easy at first. But there are several youtube videos on using the program which I think may have been done by the author of the software which were very helpful. With continued use, I quickly became familiar with the program and am able to use it with ease.

    Summary

An excellent vector motion video editor that will satisfy industry veterans as well as users just getting into creating motion object (graphics and video)
But if you're looking for a powerful alternative to Adobe Aftereffect-and especially, one without a subscription requirement-you should definitely check out VSDC.

"Powerful freeware, but crash-prone & frustrating to use"

    November 20, 2014  |   By lgcharlot

Version: VSDC Free Video Editor 2.2.2.323

    Pros

Considering that this is free software, and that the cheapest shareware non-linear video editors cost $49 ~ $99, you get a pretty good package. The user interface is fairly intuitive, and both the main program window and the various frames can be freely re-sized. Adding objects to the main timeline works as one would expect, except that drag-and-drop of files from Windows Explorer doesn't always work; you usually have to use the program's file import tools to get a reliable import, especially of multiple files. Once editing is completed and you are ready to output a final product, the choices of output containers and codecs are somewhat limited (as one would expect of freeware), but XVID MPEG4 is supported, and that's a very good codec that is highly configurable. By choosing AVI as the output container, and using XVID as the codec (set to high bitrate), and AC3 for Audio, the resulting AVI file is very "generic" and can be brought right into VirtualDub.

    Cons

VSDC has some reliability issues. It has a tendency to crash when the user does even simple things like resizing the window or moving objects in the timeline. And since there's no setting for Auto-Save, a crash could cost you hours of do-it-over time if you have not been saving your project every few minutes. The user guide is so rudimentary it's almost useless, so VSDC has a very steep learning curve. It's also extremely frustrating, especially for anyone who has used full-featured editors. For example, when building a slide show with 100 still photos, there is no way to mak

    Summary

This video editor is a mixed bag. Parts of it are nice, like the price - free - and the relatively clean and uncluttered user interface; compared to the enormous complexity of Adobe Premiere, VSDC is very easy to learn and use. But most users will eventually discover that it's crippled in some ways and missing many features that even the low-end $49 editors have, like full drag-and-drop compatibility with Windows Explorer, Batch capability for all effects and editing tools so that you don't have to apply edits one at a time to dozens (or hundreds!) of separate objects, and capability to add additional effects as plugins. Bottom line is that VSDC is okay if your project is small, with no more than maybe 20 or 30 total objects, but for a big project, where you might be bringing in dozens of video clips, and hundreds of still images as a slide show or as title and chapter slides, forget VSDC and get a full featured editor. There are many out there for under $100, Like Adobe Premiere Elements. All Video Editors have a steep learning curve and require you to invest a lot of time to become proficient. If you are going to spend 40 or 50 hours just to learn the fundamentals, you might as well be using a full featured editor. VSDC has too many limitations that will eventually cause you to abandon it when your skills grow into bigger and bigger video projects, so I would recommend you look into a better program now. If you are sure you will never be doing any video project longer than about 15 minutes or using more than 4 or 5 video clips and 10 or 15 stills for title slides, than VSDC is a reasonably capable video editor and will serve your needs, Just be sure to save your project every 5~10 minutes! There's nothing more aggravating than to spend hours assembling and arranging your video clips and stills, just to lose it all when the program crashed in flames as you re-sized something. If the authors could add a few key features, like Auto Save, and the ability to batch-apply effects and durations to multiple objects, I would change my rating to a more favorable 4 or even 5 stars.

"Free powerful video editing packages ever."

    November 17, 2014  |   By YAanamartik

Version: VSDC Free Video Editor 2.2.2.323

    Pros

This program does a good job of packing a lot of features into a nonlinear interface. Many frequently-used tools are included in the main screen.
After you are done learning at least the basics from the thousands of tutorials on Youtube, many things are much less complicated than adobe after effect.

    Cons

Harder to use at first and not many default custom settings

    Summary

This free software is really different from others.

    "Wastes my time"

    November 17, 2014  |   By LadyRoku

Version: VSDC Free Video Editor 2.2.2.323

    Pros

Easy to import and export video. Possible to learn on your own if you've used video editing software before.

    Cons

Randomly ignores the markers where I want to split video into segments, not sure if it's buggy or what. Program occasionally crashes.

    Summary

This program unexpectedly ignores only SOME of the markers I use to split up my video. Because it happens randomly, I can't figure out why, so I can't stop it. My videos tend to be 20 mins before editing and I usually record them twice, so I've got two 20 min videos to look through and it's a waste of my time to go through the same parts over and over to repeatedly edit out the segments I don't want.

"Slow, Unstable, Installer Attempts to install garbage"

    November 1, 2014  |   By HowIsEveryUsrNamInUs

Version: VSDC Free Video Editor 2.2.2.323

    Pros

    I couldn't find any

    Cons

Extremely unstable, I imported a 28 min HD video I recorded with my Galaxy S4, I was trying to speed it up to make a time lapse. After setting the playback speed to 800% I attempted to preview the video, VSDC stopped responding and had to be force closed. I tried again same issue. On the third try I opted not to preview it and just export the video to an MPG, shortly after the process started, the ET remaining shot up to over 20 hours and not even 1 thread of my processor was under significant load (program doesn't take advantage of multiple core/thread processors) I gave it a few min to see if it would return to something more reasonable but it didn't after 5-10 min so I tried to cancel the conversion and the program stopped responding and had to be force closed again.

    Summary

I have an Intel Core i7 and 16GB Ram, and works great with other video editing/encoding software but this program is just not well done.

As for the Installer, it tries to install the following viruses/mal/adware/garbage on your computer:
    Conduit "Search Protect"
Changes your home page and internet search provider to Conduit
    "MyRadioPlayer" (Adware/Redirect Virus)
"TuneUp Utilities 2014" trial (Not sure about security concerns with this one but I generally don't trust software that claims it can make your computer faster so I will just classify this one as unwanted garbage)

You can prevent the installation of these programs/viruses by choosing "Custom Installation" each time prompted and uncheck the box to install each item, "Express (Recommended)" will be selected and Custom will be grayed out but you can still select it. And ALWAYS READ every step of the installation wizard to prevent this kind of software from being installed.

"Better than the professional video editing programs!"

    October 28, 2014  |   By OberosteRR

Version: VSDC Free Video Editor 2.2.2.323

    Pros

Once you learn the interface, you can work extremely fast within the software. The interface flows very well and becomes quite natural once you learn your way around. It also is quite powerful and contains most of the features that the several hundred dollar commercial programs have.

    Cons

Hard to learn. Like I said, I learned this program and Final Cut at school, so that's how I know what to do. If you don't know how to use it, you WILL get stuck before you start. So unless you're willing to spend hours searching for tutorials don't get it. If you're patient enough for that, then by all means get this program!

"Good if you know how to use it."

    October 28, 2014  |   By hubertyohan

Version: VSDC Free Video Editor 2.2.2.323

    Pros

Very great and capable of doing whatever you put your mind into. Some tutorial on youtube for people who doesnt know how to use this program, including myself. Has everything you need and wanted. Takes time to work with, but does not disappoint you. Free program and better than many programs that you have to pay for after the trial. Only reason why it's free because they dont provide decent tutorials, which youtube and other sites kicks in. After you get the info you want, you can create anything! Just have to be patient

    "Malware ridden."

    October 27, 2014  |   By Cosmoetica

Version: VSDC Free Video Editor 2.2.2.323

    Pros

None, as I could not use. KNCTR app tries to hijack your browser.

    Cons

delete immediately. I had to manually uninstall several components, then clean with AVG and other programs.

    Summary

If CNet expects to be trusted it has to do better than this. TEST the materials, and how they download! Readers depend on your expertise.
