"Still one of the best."
Version: VLC Media Player 2.0.1
Pros
Seems to play most everything.
Cons
1/ Requires a larger amount of PC memory than some newer products.
2/ Ugly user interface. What does that pylon actually represent?
3/ Few to no extended features like sub-titles, etc.Summary
After years of using mainly VLC I switched to others like UMPlayer and Media Player Classic that required a fraction of the memory. After running into file format incompatibility issues I went back to VLC recently and the problems have thus far not returned.

"Great video player but keeping WMP for music"
Version: VLC Media Player 2.0.1
Pros
Almost every video ever made will play on this player and it can automatically update for the codecs it needs for other unplayable files. Plays DVD disks which WMP does not.
Cons
Quite a learning curve on this product i keep a bookmark on a website to remind myself how to do some of the more complicated functions on this. its powerful and very flexible but not very user friendly. also is almost useless for playing music no library to use on this. it can play music but really is out classed by WMP in this area.
Summary
very powerful video player with surprising options and functions. easy to use for playing video just set the video format to always open with this and double click and it just works. hate it for music guess i just like WMP for that better. it can convert video and stream online video but its pretty complicated for most PC users. overall solid product will be keeping it for my video playing needs.

Even A VideoCD Image File Or Any CD/DVD Images (Cuesheet BIN, NRG, ISO...), VLC Does The Job Well-doneCons
One Thing That VLC Seems A Little Bit Cons:
It Crashes When I Try To Open An "AVSEQ##.DAT" Video CD File, Even An Undamaged Video CD MPEG Video.Summary

"VIRUS VIRUS VIRUS VIRUS VIRUS"
Version: VLC Media Player 2.0.1
Pros
None did not do what its said!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cons
I can't believe that nobody on this site can't see that all this software
is either a VIRUS or AD-WARE or SPYWARE.
Literally every program I've downloaded has been caught by my virus protection!
The worst thing is c-net keeps supporting this crap ware!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
"the best!!!!"
Version: VLC Media Player 2.0.1
Pros
use it since years
Cons
never change this player
-
"A very versatile program that works where others don't."
Version: VLC Media Player 2.0.1
Pros
Some of the files I download just won't play in Windows Media Player, but VLC never seems to have any worries.
It's also a small program that doesn't hog most of the system when I run it, whereas most others seem to be very memory hungry.
I like the fact that updates seem to come at very reasonable intervals, so that it's always right on top of everything.Cons
I can't say that I've found any real problems that I could put in here.
Summary
I definitely recommend this program to anyone who is looking for a versatile small, unobtrusive solution to run files that most others don't seem to want to touch.
