Be careful. the link is for 64 bits computers only. You have to the official site, download section to find a 32/64 bits version.
Higher video bit rates in transcoding are not proposed (max. 3072) -

Really helpful! I don't think so.
I saw the CNET email notifying the arrival of the new version, read the reviews, clicked to download as I do whenever a VLC update comes along. It downloaded. I clicked to install but it appeared as the traffic cone with a NO logo (white circle with white diagonal line across it) and I thought they must have changed to logo to distinguish it from the old version. During installation it asked if I wanted to delete the old version. I clicked on yes. Now it's gone. There seem to be versions for systems going back as far as OS9 so why it won't open on my OS10.6 I have no idea and it's not telling. Can't find any discussion of anyone else having the same problem so will have to dump it, try to find somewhere to download the old version that worked and forget about all the advantages until someone explains to me what Videolan is doing wrong. Most unhappy about the time wasted. -

Plays WMA files on Mac! I had no idea it would be so difficult to play my music after getting a new Macbook. I tried so many different things and VLC is the first one that works for me!

Summary
This is the alternative media player for almost any format on the planet. I have never found a video that it couldn't play. And when I did, its useful debug messages helped me figure out what the problem is.
