Sure, it helps you play files you couldn't before (but only in its own player)

Cole2k.net Advanced Codec package I think is a better choice than to install this player. Why do you need to get a new player to play things you couldn't before? Honestly.

It played the movies that another free download would not. So far, so good!
Cons
When downloading, I had to decline a whole bunch of extra boloney that they wanted to install on my system. Shopping stuff, change my default broswer, spyware? I dunno, it all made me cringe. Wonder if some of that got installed anyway.
