This is a great backup player for badly encoded files and it is ofcourse free.
Being portable it makes a better companion to those using codec packs and standard players on a regular basis.Cons
It does have hardware acceleration, but it's usefulness outweighs the small negative.

Summary
I love the regular VLC player, so was happy to see this one. When I open the .exe my virus scanner it crashes immediately with an error message saying the dll is corrupted and a text file is created containing then following text "windows error The specified module could not be found.

plus more stuff.
Then my virus scanner announces that it has detected the win32/ kryptik.AVD. -
