"I Used to Love Unlocker; Got Malware from New Install"

    November 19, 2013  |   By Snate

    Version: Unlocker 1.9.2

    Pros

Helps you Move and Delete Files when a poorly designed application will not let it go even after it is done with it unless you quit the application.

    Cons

    AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
I just downloaded the current version of Unlocker for a new computer and it installed Malware on my computer. It installed Tube Dimmer and attempted to install something else as well. I just wasted couple of hours getting my system cleaned up.
    AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

    Summary

    AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
Now installs verified Malware on your system. No it is not an error or false positive as it once might have been.
    AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

"Helped but didn't work; hard no to install junkware"

    November 2, 2013  |   By mknoll

    Version: Unlocker 1.9.2

    Pros

Identified the process that was preventing deletion of a file, which allowed me to figure out what program to close in order to unlock the file.

    Cons

    1. Failed to unlock the file I was trying to delete.
    2. Default installation process hijacks your browser's default search provider, installs unwanted toolbar, and tries to install other junkware.

    Summary

Windows 7 Home Premium was blocking deletion of an unwanted file, saying "Access is denied" despite the deletion attempt having been made from an Administrator account that was the Owner of the file and had full Permissions for the file.

During the installation process, you have to be VERY diligent and vigilant to avoid installation of junkware. Selecting the default installation options instead of the custom install procedure -- there are not one but two places where you have to make this decision -- will result in the installation of all sorts of nasty-sounding junkware.

Especially deceptive is a series of "Accept" or "Decline" screens. The Accept button -- which installs junkware -- I bright green, which tempts you to click it. The "Decline" button is grayed out, as if clicking it will do nothing. But you need to click Decline to bypass the installation of that screen's particular piece of junkware.

I'm not sure whether I avoided installation of all the junkware.

Just to be safe, I also declined the option to integrate this program as an extension to Windows Explorer. Instead, I ran it from the Start menu.

The program identified multiple processes that it reported were locking the file I wanted to delete. I clicked unlock. The program seems to have thought it had unlocked the file. But Windows still refused to delete the file. Same error message: Access is denied.

Unlocker had reported that all the processes locking the file were Internet Explorer processes. So I closed Internet Explorer. That allowed me to delete the file.

What a simple solution! I wasted about an hour of my time trying to delete one file. At Microsoft's official help site, I entered the search term "'Access is denied' in Windows 7." To my extreme disgust, Microsoft's web site -- as usual -- did not have a solution for this problem -- even though it was a Microsoft error message! The Microsoft page on this error has three frequent causes of this problem, none of which were the cause in my case. The other links on its page took me to lists of articles that had absolutely nothing to do with my problem.

    "Fantastic Program"

    October 28, 2013  |   By custodianguard

    Version: Unlocker 1.9.2

    Pros

does exactly what its meant to do.

    Cons

it has none, during installation it asks if the user wants to install additional software, just choose not to, how hard is that. All the previous reviewers must be fools.

    Summary

i had a file that for whatever reason Windows would not allow me to move from one folder to another, and Unlocker made it work.

    "simple, did the job"

    September 21, 2013  |   By Miek_s

    Version: Unlocker 1.9.2

    Pros

simple, one-click is enough. When it sees no problem (but there was), it leaves you possibilities to help you. So deleting a folder that I couldn't: unlocker took care of it.

    Cons

When installing the software the boxes for express install are checked. Uncheck them if you only want unlocker to be installed and choose not to install the other software.

    Summary

    does the job

    "Does what it supposed to."

    September 21, 2013  |   By avbip

    Version: Unlocker 1.9.2

    Pros

    Unlocks files

    Cons

Way to simple. Needs to be more complex ;)

    Summary

This tool is very handy and quick and easy to use. It will even add an option to the rick click menu if you want it to unlock files. Its so much quicker and easier than trying to figure out which property or attribute or cause of the lock is blocking you from doing what you want to do. It side-steps Micro$oft and gives you the freedom to get done what you want and not the constipation that was built in intentionally by the OS.
