Most of the time you can bypass the Windows "File is in use" message to unlock a file, particularly when Explorer is the process in question.
Cons
Once in awhile I'll run into a stubborn process that just won't let go, hence a reboot.
Summary
I'd suggest doing a little research before becoming Chicken Little, and screaming "Malware". Unlocker installs nothing without your permission. You can opt out of any toolbars it offers.
If you blindly click through the install process, or get an infected installer from a dubious download site (not CNET or the developer's site), then the fault is yours. -

Very useful whenever that useless and annoying Windows error comes up. This application lets you tell Windows to stuff it and that's always a good thing :)
