Highly versatile and especially proficient with boot discs, UltraISO Premium creates, edits, and burns disc images in several popular formats: ISO, BIN, Nero, Alcohol, CloneCD, and Xbox. It also converts images among formats. UltraISO supports data and audio/video discs and includes a simple MP3 encoder, but it really excels at creating bootable discs. It even can create a disc with a menu for booting several OSs.

The interface is well organized, though rather plain, and we wish its icons were more readable. Also on the negative side, the program can't mount CD images, which will diminish its value for some. However, if you need support for multiple image formats and want to design bootable discs, UltraISO makes a very good pick.

Publisher's description

From EZB Systems :

UltraISO can extract, create, edit, and convert CD/DVD image files. It can directly edit an ISO file, make ISO images from CD/DVD-ROMs, create a new ISO from files and folders on your computer, and make bootable CDs and DVDs. In addition, UltraISO can convert nearly all known CD and DVD image formats to ISO, BIN/CUE, Nero (NRG), Alcohol 120% (MDS/MDF), and CloneCD (CCD/IMG/SUB) formats, as well as burn CD/DVD images directly through Nero Burning ROM or Microsoft cdburn/dvdburn utility. UltraISO can be used as an ISO and BIN extractor, creator, editor, and converter with most CD/DVD-burning software and virtual CD/DVD drive software, it can handle most Apple DMG images, create Windows/Mac hybrid CD with HFS volume, make Audio CD from MP3/WMA/WAV files, and create DVD-Video, XBOX DVDs and PS2 DVDs.

Version 8.6.0.1936 supports shell extension, comes with improved ISO CD/DVD emulator, burning engine, and fixed some bugs.

"The best optical image management tool there is"

by [deXter] on November 29, 2006

Pros: UltraISO was the first on the multi-format-direct-edit scene. The fact that you could edit ISO files directly without needing to recreate the entire file, and the ability to handle all popular CD/DVD images makes this a unique and a useful tool.

Of course now it faces stiff competition from the likes of MagicISO and PowerISO and a couple of other programs, but UltraISO still has enough features like:

+Built in drive emulator (supports all formats)

+Can burn images from within explorer

+Supports direct mounting to other drive emulator softwares (eg Daemon Tools)

    +Improved direct-save feature (lesser bugs)

    +Improved CD/DVD burning

Overall, UltraISO isn't a program for everybody. But if you deal a lot with ISOs and other images files, CD/DVD authoring, etc, then UltraISO comes as a very handy tool. This is not for the average joe user though, considering that it comes with a hefty price tag.

    Cons: -Doesn't support DAA

"Rubbish. Runs slow and hogs memory"

    by jon_f on December 18, 2006

Pros: At the end of the day I guess it has lots of features. But with so many cons its just not worth it!

Cons: Runs incredibly slowly, when extracting an iso it seemed to dump it to memory, so even with 1GB of ram my computer grinded to a halt. Poorly written, slow performance.
