"World's Best 'File' Database & Internet Research Tool!"
Version: Ultra Recall 5.0
Pros
Ultra Recall Pro performs two essential tasks exceptionally well. One, it is absolutely the best database software for storing files (documents, images, PDFs, etc). And, two, it serves as an incredibly effective Internet research tool. PLUS, Ultra Recall is super easy to learn and use.
Cons
Ultra Recall is not easy to set-up after installation. But UR tech support is quick to help you to properly adjust the settings. And after you get the settings right, Ultra Recall is a dream to use.
Summary
I am usually a harsh critic of software. So, a software has to be extraordinary to get a 5-star rating from me. But Ultra Recall is one of the rare few that I'll pin a 5-Star medal onto its chest. So, let me tell you why!
Ultra Recall was primarily designed to serve as a database for storing, organizing, managing, and protecting your files. As such, it is incredibly much more effective than Windows 7's native Windows Explorer. It offers so many brilliant features for organizing your files...and that's just the tip of the iceberg as to what it can do!
Ultra Recall (UR) allows you to create multiple databases. That is great because you can put specific files into particular databases. For instance, I create a unique database for each of my work projects. Many files are placed into each database. BUT the database, acting as a container, is only ONE file! THUS, transferring a project's entire set of files is a just a matter of copying or moving ONE database file. Also, that makes back-up a real breeze.
THE DATABASE CONTAINER PROTECTS YOUR FILES FROM VIRUSES. A few months ago I picked up a vicious bad virus that trashed Windows 7 and infected my folders and files in Windows Explorer. BUT my files inside the UR database container were not infected! Oh man, Ultra Recall is a lifesaver!
I just installed the new version 5. I created a new database. Then I dragged and dropped some Word documents and PDFs into it. I clicked on a Word document INSIDE the database...and guess what happened? Word 2010 opened INSIDE the database...the full Word ribbon is there! I can perform edits inside the database without moving Word documents back to desktop. How crazy great is that?
WAIT...IT GETS EVEN BETTER!
Ultra Recall puts a button in Internet Explorer. One click and the web page you are viewing gets placed inside a UR database of your choice. Yes, not just a mere link...but the entire actual web page...saved forever (until you delete it). So, if the original web page is ever removed from the Internet, you still have its info inside your UR database. It is an Internet Researcher's dream tool.
I created a database just for saving Internet pages. It beats the heck out of using the native bookmark function of the major browsers. It is so much easier to organize your web research in a UR database than using favorites or bookmarks in Internet Explorer or Chrome.
Believe it or not, Ultra Recall offers even more great features. It includes database templates for organizing contacts, appointments, reminders, notes, To Do lists, and projects.
I could cite many more awesome features...but I imagine your eyes are getting tired by now. So, LOOK, do yourself a big favor by trying the trial download of UR. They let you use a fully functional UR for 30 or 45 days...I forget which...because I bought the full version within a week.
FINALLY, I must disclose that UR does have one drawback.
Installation in Windows 7 64-bit was as smooth as ice. But setting up UR afterwards was a sore chore.
What you get after installation is the basic default UR without many of its great features 'activated'. So, in order to enjoy UR's best features, you must go into Options and activate those wonderful features. OMG, it is not easy to figure out which and what settings to activate.
FORTUNATELY, UR's tech support is fast and awesome. If you hit a snag, email them...and they will quickly walk you through the process of properly adjusting all settings. UR's techie wizard is Kyle Alons...ask for him specifically if you want to get fixed up fast.
FORTUNATELY, after UR's settings are properly adjusted, you will enjoy smooth sailing thereafter...and your PC productivity will definitely increase by using UR to keep everything well organized.
LASTLY, no, this was not a paid advertisement. I bought my copy of UR...and it was such a great investment that I am happy to gush about UR's virtues. Just try it and see for yourself why I am such a big fan.
