"Very good Disk Optmzr & Defragmntr (Win Vista Ultimate)"

Pros
Fast defragmenter. Easy to use GUI, which has an original "disk" layout look of the drive. Click on a colored block on the GUI disk, and it shows the file and defrag option of the cluster - Very, very nice! Has the option to manually place your most accessed files to the edge of the disk, in theory the outside of drum spins faster, hence the file is manipulated for execution and/or read/write access faster. I noticed a definite improvement in speed and file access, when this program gave me the option to place my operating system files and game files that I use on this gaming rig to far outside portions of the disk drum. WOW! My games really fly now! No more game lags! And my boot up is twice as fast (original boot speed = approx. 2min., new boot speed = approx. 45secs.) No other program I know of allows me to place files on the disk drum where the read/write heads access the files faster. UltimateDefrag is the only program I know of. I thank the developers for their hard work.
Cons
I have not found any bugs with this program. So far, it does what is says. Read the manual closely. I also didn't notice any blocks or clusters that were introduced after defragmentation, and my disk didn't get fouled up. I will say that some of those small clusters I saw were the MFT and the boot loader. They are perfectly fine on my system after defragmentation.
Summary
The reason why people get errors or corrupted disks after using a professional deframenter, such as UltimateDefrag, is because they forget to run a CHKDSK (check disk for errors and repair) before running a disk defragmenter. Everyone should run a CHKDSK and fix any bad blocks or corrupted clusters before defragmenting their hard drive. This is a normal procedure I have used before defragging a hard drive. If you skip that, anyone with any defrag product will have serious or lost data issues. So, don't forget to run CHKDSK before defragging with any utility. Also note that even new hard drives can come with bad blocks too - I've had this experience.
To the person that has replied to my review: I'm not a sponsored reviewer. Those green clusters that show up as used (occupied) is normal before the disk is analyzed. In other words, when you launch the program (UltimateDefrag), you will see clusters that show up as occupied without knowing what is in them. Any defrag utility will not know what occupies the clusters until you analyze the disk. After you analyze the disk before defragging it, UltimateDefrag will see what is in them with the correct Start Cluster and End Cluster value. I see no problem with their product, and as a power user for my gaming rig, this is the best program I've ever encountered for a defrag utility!

Updated on Nov 19, 2011To B-2Admirer, I'm not a sponsored reviewer. Make sure you download the latest version of UltimateDefrag from DiskTrix website. I still don't see any cluster problem after analysis and defrag jobs, and their program has never failed to analyze my hard drives. Maybe you could provide more information about your system and a step by step procedure that would reproduce the bug. Developers can't fix a problem if they can't reproduce the bug.

Summary
I have tried many defragmenters looking for the most suitable for my needs and at first really liked this one. However, almost immediatelly I have noticed that it fails to assign some clusters to the files they belong to (shows them as occupied, but doesn't see what occupies them). Naturally, it cannot move such clusters which botches the whole defragmentation process. In order to make sure it's a bug and not a problem with my disk I tried using it on a newly formatted disk with a few fragmented files thrown in, and guess what? The unassigned (green) clusters, which weren't present before defragmentation, appeared after, which means the program fouls up the disk it defragments (although, in fairness I have to say that in my case it did not lead to the loss of data, only made subsequent defragmentation pointless).
As to the next reviewer's (evidently sponsored) assumtions about disks not being checked prior to defragmentation or bad blocks on new drives, one can hardly react to them with anything but scorn. I've already stated that the bug was admitted by the lead developer, even though it has never been fixed and for whatever it's worth to anyone, I'll also add that I did check my disk with CHKDSK prior to defragmentation and I always do a full surface test on the newly purchased disks in order to ensure they contain no bad sectors.
Of course, I reported the bug to the support and after a rather long delay was contacted by the lead developer. The conversations with him dragged on for nearly 4 months and all the time he promised to fix the bug later while constantly making excuses as to why he haven't done it already. My last two messages to him were completely ignored, as were my messages to the support with requests to investigate.
The bottom line is, giving their unwillingness to fix even critical bugs, using this program is highly not recommended.

Updated on Nov 19, 2011Regarding yet another series of tall tales from the next reviewer who denies being sponsored but behaves more and more as if he was, I consider it's totally self-explanatory that the bug I encountered is manifested in unassigned but occupied clusters present AFTER the disk analysis. The program, of course, needs to analyse the disk to determine which file a cluster belongs to, trouble is the analyses sometimes fails. -
"A few good ideas poorly executed"

It's paid for two versions of the product and it offers an interesting display (circular, like a disk) and several defragging options.
Cons
Buggy and unstable on Window 7 Ultimate. Some defrag algorithms are flawed--files are moved unnecessarily; in another case, it kept moving the same file back and forth. Apparently unsupported--never received a response to any emailed questions.
Summary
Have not found an damaged file as a result of Disktrix's problems so far but it's worrisome. Defragging is like surgery on your drive, and in both cases a botched event is painful and expensive. I'm going back to Contig.exe; it's free and stable.

Pros
Many options are available in addition to standard defragmenting. Novices can easily use the automated processes but experts and tweakers will want to explore some of the more esoteric features to fine-tune their hard drive file placement.
Cons
Unless a hard drive is badly defragmented, the overall speed benefits resulting from basic defragging may not be very noticeable.
Summary
UltimateDefrag has an excellent users manual in .pdf format. It should be reviewed before attempting to incorporate some of the optional features in the program.
The display is very colorful and reveals exactly how and where files are being placed based on the initial analysis. However, watching the hard drive file mapping during the processes can be a bit mesmerizing. Fortunately, the program can be left to operate in the background -

You can see a massive difference even after just one thorough defrag, everything loads up much faster and I've used more than 10 different defragging utilities both free editions and paid for and by far this is the best yet!
Cons
It can be tricky and confusing to use, on occasion boot-time defrag failed until I figured out how to get it working the way I needed it to.
Summary
Honestly, even just novice users can learn how to use this program relatively easily. Unless you're tweaking out your system for maximum performance, just select auto defragmentation and let it go. Experiment with it a little or ask around even. But personally, I will not be using another defragging utility other than Ultimate Defrag, thanks for putting out a great product!
