"Initially a great product - customer service poor."
Version: Ulead VideoStudio X3
Pros
Easy to use and quick to learn for the beginner. Import and organization on the fly with dazzling presentation within the application.
Cons
Flash objects failed. Rendering process crashes within 5 minutes. Online customer support, simply is nonexistent. Be prepared to wait 45 minutes for phone help.
Summary
I believe at its core the software is a wonderful and easy package to use. Never having used such a product in the past, I was quickly able to produce a 45 minute video for my parents 50th Wedding Anniversary. Import, organization and the many embedded special features to make the video a dazzling presentation worked very well. However, this product requires the use of Flash objects as you select templated transitions and special effects, as well as in the rendering of the final video. Flash simply failed to work most of the time. Also, and most importantly the embedded rendering process would crash about 5 minutes into the video rendering process, every time. I attempted to get resolution for this issue from Corel, and even though they provide several avenues to seek customer support, none work. You can attempt to chat, but the link was never open; you can email them with a question, and you'll be placed in an infinite loop of patches and fixes that fail as well; and you can also call their tech support that is if you don't mind holding for 45 minutes or more. I gave this Corel product a 1 star for that fact alone. You can't even write a formal complaint letter, just try to find an address... I grade a company's software on their ability and willingness to stand behind it and provide support when needed, on this aspect Corel fails miserably.

"Loved the many features available"
Version: Ulead VideoStudio X4
Pros
There are so many options to select something already done and customize it to your video. Lots of extras that can be added. Tutorials available.
Cons
Took a while to load, but there is a lot offered. Dark colors a bit more difficult to read.
Summary
Just got a new camera and took a video of a "show" at our clubhouse. It was fun trying all of the features to get just the look that I wanted. There is a lot to learn which might be a turnoff to some people. But, if you really want to become GOOD at video editing, you need to take the time to learn all of the features and practice using the options available. It took me a while to find some of the things that I wanted, but while looking for something I would stumble on another feature that I didn't know was there and it helped to make my new DVD creation something that I was very proud of. This will be a program that I will spend a lot of time learning and creating some very special shows to share with family and friends.

"Feature rich video editing program"
Version: Ulead VideoStudio X4
Pros
Loads faster than comparable programs. Not a steep learning curve. Provides for 5.1 sound and 16:9 Widescreen. One click enlargement feature allows you to see your work almost full screen.
Cons
Media inputs do not include a straightforward listing for inserting media files from a PC. it is a two step process, you have to go to the File menu/insert files to import. Gray on black lettering difficult to see.
Summary
This program will serve you well whether you are an experienced video editor or just beginning to edit your family pictures. It is has something for everyone. To begin with, do not discount the Corel Guide splash screen that opens the program. The "Learn" tab leads you to 16 tutorial videos that illustrate and help you to perform some of the most important features. The "Do More" tab provides for a number of free downloads that enrich the program. There are the usual storyboard and timeline views but using the Track Manager you can increase the number of tracks way beyond what you would ever need. For example, in addition to the normal video track, there are 6 additional overlay tracks that can be added. There is a neat feature that allows you to create a movie screen saver to impress your friends and neighbors. Transitions are plentiful and there are a large number of special effects available for use. For the beginning or average user there are features that you will probably never use but it's nice to know that they are available if you ever need them. For the serious video editor, this program contains most or all of the video editing tools that are currently found in comparable programs in a quick and easy to use format.

"I love the new Corel Video Studio Pro X4."
Version: Ulead VideoStudio X4
Pros
Clear organization, easy for somebody new to the program, yet sophisticated when explored.
Cons
I wish sometimes I had the video to look at when adjusting things in the Sound Mixer view.
Summary
The screen is uncluttered, the various tasks are easy to access, which make the program easy to use for the not so experienced user. Yet, when you edit the attributes of each of the Effects, every facet of the effect is adjustable and so the program becomes highly customizable. It is easy to set and delete additional nodes, move them on the time line and make adjustments to each. There is an endless of variety of adjustment and time flies by with playing around. I tested the Stop Motion feature and it was a delight to use. Very easy to set up using the Webcam and as experiment I brought some paper clips to life in a breeze. It could not have been easier. Before saving I could make all kinds of modifications and once on the timeline I added effects and it came out great.

"Corel vs x4 vs power director 9"
Version: Ulead VideoStudio X4
Pros
Dvd authoring is really improved and still the best of best, mpeg or avchd smart rendering in the editing, time lapse, upscaling
Cons
Avchd editing is not on par with power director
Summary
If u buying this for avchd editing, then you go with power director 9 way faster than corel and also avchd smart render is much better and accurate in power director.even in regular mpeg editing transition make a stutter when you do smart rendering.dvd authoring is very good though, corel is best in dvd authoring. 64bit support still not there, even though it will work on 64 bit system,it is 32 bit program, power director is 64 bit.playing of avchd is not very improved. For this price power director is best.by the way I own x3 and tried x4 as trial and own power director 9
