"Good to have it back!"

August 21, 2011  |  By Full Score

 |  Version: URL Manager Pro 4.0.1b2

Pros

Still the best.

Cons

Interface is somewhat clunky, but it does what it says efficiently.

Summary

We waited a long time for the Intel version. Good to see it's already Lion compatible.

"The only REAL bookmark manager"

July 30, 2011  |  By Benoit Evans

 |  Version: URL Manager Pro 4.0

Pros

Multi-browser, allows sorting and validating, can manage LARGE numbers of bookmarks.

Cons

Now that it's been rewritten for Intel processors and is Lion compatible, NONE.

Summary

URLMP has always been the most versatile and best bookmark manager. For a long time it was "stuck" in the PowerPC-Rosetta world. Now it has been rewritten for Intel. For a while, there was concern that the devloper would not be able to produce an Intel version. During that time, I tried all the alternatives. NONE of them cut the mustard for me. Just as Steve Dorner's Eudora (until it died) was the best ever email app and just like Thorsten Lemke's GraphicConverter is still the best image management and conversion app, Alco Bloom's URL Manager Pro is the bookmark manager with which all the others are compared--and they all fall short.

"efficient URL management when using multiple browsers."

October 16, 2010  |  By chgeorge

 |  Version: URL Manager Pro 3.5b10

Pros

Stores thousands of bookmarks & e-mail addresses made available by an icon on the OS X menu bar, near the time and sound icons. These links are available to any open browser or e-mail client, with few exceptions. Allows multiple URL collections.

Cons

Has not been updated in a long time, but I've had no functional problems. Needs a screening function to weed out old invalid URLs.

Summary

Many browsers are available for the Mac, and I find reasons to use several. Without this application, I would save bookmarks in one or the other of these browsers as useful sites are encountered. These bookmarks would not then be available to the other browsers without complicated "importing." With this app, I save bookmarks to one or another URL collection which are then universally available. There is a provision to store "footnotes" along with each bookmark: things like corporate addresses, phone numbers, etc. I can generate files of bookmarks to share with friends, usable on both Macs and PCs. i can carry around bookmark files and the app itself on a USB flash drive to use on borrowed computers at travel destinations.

"Once excellent program seems to be languishing"

January 22, 2010  |  By danlfsmith

 |  Version: URL Manager Pro 3.5b10

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I've used URL Manager for several years, and found it very handy. It keeps an icon on the menu bar from which you can access all your URLs, organize them, etc, from theoretically any browser. Handy if you use different browsers, or are testing them. Unfortunately, the program hasn't been updated in two years, and still runs in Rosetta on Intel Macs, so it isn't too fast. It is unclear whether the developer intends to keep working on it or supporting it.

"Excellent Utility.....Could Be 5 Stars If......."

October 12, 2008  |  By alajuela

 |  Version: URL Manager Pro 3.5b10

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
But the archaic look and feel is in serious need of an update. I love URLMP, and it works with the browsers I care about. Granted, it only works halfway with Firefox 3.x, i.e., your collection of bookmarks is available from the menubar, but it seems that addition of new bookmarks does not work correctly. Still, precisely because I do most of my work in Safari, URLMP is particularly effective for me, because every time I have occasion to use another browser, all my bookmarks are there. However, the interface is archaic, more like System 8. Alco is a dedicated developer, and I just wish he'd bring URLMP into the Big Cat Era. That and complete Firefox compatibility would restore this to first class, 5-star status. But even with those faults, nothing else matches URLMP. I have tried every other bookmark manager, and they all seem to get the model wrong. URLMP gets the model right, and in that respect, it has no competition. [BTW, if someone knows of another manager that allows you to collect bookmarks from within any browser and make them available in any browser, without itself having to be the front & center app, let me know. I love Quicksilver, but apps like it are not the same. And I would gladly pay good money and give 7 stars to anyone who could integrate 1Password and URLMP functionality into a single app.]

"Complicated? For whom?"

August 29, 2006  |  By alajuela

 |  Version: URL Manager Pro 3.4.4

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I think mkupietz really misses the mark with the claim of complication. More complicated than simply bookmarking in Safari? Yes; show me a bookmark manager that is not. By definition, adding a layer of storage/searchability will add some extra steps. But it's nowhere near as bad as he makes out. I routinely add bookmarks to URLMP with a single keystroke combination, just like any of the decent BM managers. But I love URLMP. Even with its antiquated look, it still exceeds the other bookmark managers IMHO. I tried iURL and WebnoteHappy [which is pretty good, but is too tied to del.icio.us], and while each has something to commend it, they still do not match URLMP. The good news is that there is a new beta in the works, and it is pretty nice. Here is what I think it needs:
1. stable menu bar controller; this is one of its greatest advantages; with the menu controller, URLMP feels like it is part of every app rather than a separate app; I have never had a problem with it, but others seem to;
2. automated sync/backup with .Mac and del.icio.us and Amazon web storage and anything else people might want, but not just one service
3. Quicksilver integration [this would rock];
4. newer interface like WebnoteHappy, or other Mail imitators, or even mimic Quicksilver.

"Dead In The Water?"

February 26, 2006  |  By gryphonent

 |  Version: URL Manager Pro 3.4.4

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
This used to be a â??must-have application.â?? Been using it for years, paid for both URL-Manager and Web Confidential. However, it has not been updated for a while and definitely needs updating. Not only does it look and feel old, it also is somewhat antiquated in its usability and level of integration with other applications.

Written to developer Alco Blom at least twice with no reply. Alco used to fast and reliable in updating his apps... but whatever happened to him, I fear both URL-Manager and Web Confidential are dead in the water. Personally, I have started looking for alternatives such as BareBonesâ?? excellent Yojimbo.

"FANTASTIC and NECESSARY!"

December 02, 2005  |  By johnmcoyne

 |  Version: URL Manager Pro 3.4.4

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I've been online for around nine years now and have amassed over 1500 bookmarks. Trying to find and keep track of 'favourites' within this amount is a logistical nightmare (even with Tiger's Spotlight feature!)
I downloaded this baby and found myself online again to pay for the registration within 30 minutes of installing it.
An amazing little application, professional and with a great UI (Apple themselves couldn't have made it look or function any better!) which makes bookmark management an absolute pleasure.
It amazes me why no OS (be it Microsoft or Apple) has such a feature built in by now, or why Browser software is missing this essential tool. Surely an necessity these days?

This is essential software for anyone who need a central hub to keep track, organise and more to the point find, those little needle like bookmarks in a sea of URLs.

ESSENTIAL.
