"Fixed my PC crashes and other problems. Brilliant!"

    December 31, 2013  |   By jayvee44

    Version: TuneUp Utilities 2014 14.0.1000.145

    Pros

I downloaded the trial version to see if it might just solve the constant crashing problem on my Vista pc. This had been happening for a few weeks and nothing I tried helped. Finally someone suggested I tried TuneUp Utilities. I didn't have much hope, but the fact that I could download and try it for free prompted me to at least give it a go. Well,I was amazed at the huge amount of problems the software found, and I decided to let it fix everything listed. The whole task took about 40 minutes (though choosing to defrag a little later took many hours!). Anyway, since then, the computer, is definitely running better and has not crashed once in that time. So I'm hoping TU has found and cured the problem once and for all. My trial runs out in two days and meanwhile TU has been running in the background and maintaining the system. I will be getting a new PC very soon, so won't be buying TU just yet, but will DEFINITELY be purchasing it for the new machine. Absolutely recommended.

    Cons

None that I can think of in the short time I've been using TU

"The best and brightest for now"

    September 25, 2013  |   By DDRAMbo64738

    Version: TuneUp Utilities 2014 14.0.1000.145

    Pros

TuneUp is the only utility suite that takes you step-by-step through the setup so that you both understand how it works and also learn, if you don't already know, more aspects of how your PC operates. I imagine many people can't appreciate this wizard-like process and don't get the most out of it, but when TuneUp is intelligently set up, it keeps your PC running uber smoothly.
I compared the TuneUp 1-Click Maintenance with that of Glary Utilities, and TuneUp found 300 more fixes to the registry and 5x as many shortcut issues. It has a pleasing UI with some welcome animation. The separation of functions into windowed groups is well thought out. The ability to customize the Windows interface is icing on the cake.

    Cons

I wish all of these apps wouldn't pop up messages related to upgrading when you've made every attempt to turn it off.

    Summary

I have my doubts that TuneUp can maintain it's perspective on performance rather than profit since it's been acquired by AVG Technologies, the company that puts out the free AVG antivirus program. If they try to combine AVG antivirus with this utility suite as they did with Spyware Doctor (that's right, you don't hear so much about that product any more, do you), the future doesn't bode well because it will become a niche product.

    Summary

    "Pretty good"

    September 6, 2013  |   By kanbrain

    Version: TuneUp Utilities 2014 14.0.1000.145

    Pros

Overall, my 4-yr-old computer was running so poorly that I was thinking of replacing it. On the advice of a colleague I tried TU. Now the computer's performance is improved. Sometimes it does run way too slowly for comfort, will freeze up for a bit. Other times it runs very efficiently. In general, I have to reboot notably fewer times than I used to. I think TU's periodic clean-up and repair of the registry makes a significant difference.

    Cons

TU's prioritizing of programs sometimes has gotten obtrusive. I use Copernic for desktop search. That program needs to run continually to index new content. TU sometimes tries to deactivate it. But TU tells me that and I can override it.

    Summary

I haven't had any of the problems with the 2012, 2013 versions that some have complained about here. I haven't needed any support from the vendor, so I can't evaluate that.

I initially ran each of TU's operations manually so I could see what it was doing. Once I was satisfied that it wasn't doing anything harmful, I just let it run automatically.

TU is not a panacea, but for a reasonable price I think it is reasonably helpful.

"A nuisance to have on your computer."

    August 25, 2013  |   By Zazzlez

    Version: TuneUp Utilities 2014 13.0.3020.7

    Pros

    - The software SOMETIMES works as they claim.
    - could be helpful for those with little knowledge of PC maintenance.

    Cons

    - It can cause your system to become unstable.
    - When it doesn't work the way they claim, the support is of NO help whatsoever.

    Summary

This program, which I might add I never even agreed to download was forced on my computer while downloading another program entirely. Surely this would **** most people off, but then without even asking this program began to make decisions about everyday programs that I use, making them unstable and crash often (Said problems never occurred before this forced installation on my computer.)
To be at least fair I decided to give this program a shot, and decided to try running one of my video games. Around fifteen - twenty minutes into playing tuneup utilities popped up a lovely message telling me that in order to optimize my PC it would lower the priority of the game i was currently playing, this in turn slowed my frame rate, and eventually crashed the game entirely.

Surely for anyone reading this you can understand why this program is a waste of your time, the developers seem more interested in sales than they do with making a quality program that works WITH its users rather than making decisions on it's own.
The program is unstable, and support for it is minimal. I'd suggest that you steer clear from this waste of space.

    "Mixed Sentiments"

    August 10, 2013  |   By airdrieguy2

    Version: TuneUp Utilities 2014 13.0.3020.7

    Pros

I found it does all that it claims until things go wrong and then they are of no help.

    Cons

Until they were bought by AVG it was a great product offering great support now its all the about the sales and nothing about support. I have repeatedly emailed (as in an email a week for two months now) about about a problem I am having trying to uninstalling a corrupt version and installing a new one and still have not heard back.

    Summary

    Updated on Jul 31, 2014

It took the Tuneup Utilities team awhile but they did eventually solve the software problem. Now the program works as they said it would. Change my recommendation to "Buy it."

    Pros

This program was awesome up to and including the 2010 version! 2011 was also great but a bit sluggish. 2012 we has system crashes on our computer and other people too when started using the 2012 edition. Inquiries is almost impossible - due to no email address to contact them but only online form that we have tried and didn't work - so we found it impossible to contact/Communicate to them.

    Cons

    "Throws awayy important data"

    July 19, 2013  |   By lyrromero

    Version: TuneUp Utilities 2014 13.0.3020.7

    Pros

Easy to install and use, frees lots of space, cleans the registry

    Cons

It didn't speed up my PC and cleaned important data like uninstall info, some days after I tried to uninstall a program to update to a new version and could not unintstall the old one and could not install the new one because it erased a DLL file. I told 2 persons about this utility and one loosed part of his email in Outlook and the other one give up errors in IE and could not browse some pages. The three of us had to ask for professional help to repair the system and loosed info.

    Summary

Don't use this progam if you are not an advanced user, or don't want to loose data.

    "Great Maintenance tool"

    July 7, 2013  |   By Adam_Kew

    Version: TuneUp Utilities 2014 13.0.3020.7

    Pros

This program is a must have in my opinion! I've been using it for the past 3 years, and have had no problems. It helps maintain my PC, helps me disable programs which keeps them from "automatically" starting up freeing system RAM and CPU usage, quickens startup/shutdown processes, and lets me change my Windows 7 login screen so I can be unique! And last but not least, 1-click maintenance which makes my life easier.

    Cons

None, but if I had to pick something... It's not idiot proof. This program does NOT slow down your system or internet as other reviewers are "claiming".

    Summary

I've been playing around with computers for the past 12 years, and have seen some crazy fun stuff. This is by far a must have tool for anyone smart enough to use it. If you don't know how, read up on how to use it properly!
