    "Excellent Free Encryption Software"

    July 28, 2012  |   By Never_Looks_Back

    Version: TrueCrypt 7.1a

    Pros

    Protects data
Easy to use with the help of the tutorial
    Doesn't cost anything

    Cons

Requires a brain with "Common Sense" installed
The first con was a joke, and if you didn't understand it you will not be able to operate this program :(

    Summary

Excellent software that works as advertised -- OS: W7 Home -- and is free. (Although I feel a donation is not too much to ask because I can only imagine how difficult this code was to write)

    "Excellent encryption tool."

    July 18, 2012  |   By TheAl12345

    Version: TrueCrypt 7.1a

    Pros

This is the one and, as far as I know, the only free encryption tool that works. You can excrypt your entire system or excrpyt certain files. It uses AES, Twofish, and Serpent encryptions, which others only use AES. This is a powerful tool and I have tested it, it does encrypt your system and files. You can also add a password in addition to your login password, allowing you to have 2 login passwords, if you want to.

    Cons

Nothing really. Maybe a new interface. Kind of got old with this one.

    Summary

The only free powerful encryption tool that does what it says.

    "Too complicated to use!"

    May 27, 2012  |   By garypty

    Version: TrueCrypt 7.1a

    Pros

Seems secure, but I did not use it actually.

    Cons

    Too complicated, not user-friendly.

    Summary

I do not understand why others think that it is easy to use, the user guide has 150 pages and you probably can not use it without reading the user guide! I have downloaded it, created the volume and mounted the disk, but what I want to do now is free the hard disk space and uninstall this program

    "Outstanding application"

    May 21, 2012  |   By RJD185

    Version: TrueCrypt 7.1a

    Pros

Incredibly reliable with superb feature set

    Cons

    None found

    Summary

Used Truecrypt since early version 6. It starts and loads my module drive when I turn the laptop on, and stays live the whole time I work. I live on the computer for work and I have never had any issue at all with the encrypted drive. Performance is excellent (I run VMWare virtual machine images from off the encrypted partitions - laptops usually have spare CPU over spare disk bandwidth so it's a good use for the free cycles). Also use this to move encrypted volumes between different OS environments, having mounted the same volumes on Windows (multiple versions) and Linux (CentOS, Ubuntu, RH/Fedora multiple versions). I use files not devices for portability but my main laptop support is a device mounted system with key files. I don't use the System encryption as my work system uses PGP WDE, but I have in the past experimented with it on Windows and Linux. Quite astounding that a product as functional, effective and reliable as this is available for free.

    "Excellent when it works"

    April 22, 2012  |   By Lizardxy

    Version: TrueCrypt 7.1a

    Pros

When it works, it provides a wonderful free service that fully and privately encrypts files and systems.

    Cons

It does not always work. Whether it works or not depends on whether the computer uses a GUID partition table or a MBR partition table. This seems to depend on the size of the harddrive - smaller hard drives can use MBR. Larger ones require GUID. TrueCrypt works on MBR but not on GUID, which leaves me extremely disappointed with my beautiful new desktop - I can't use it securely. Other software, including Symantec PGP and Microsoft BitLocker also failed to work. PGP probably failed for the same reason TrueCrypt failed. BitLocker failed for other reasons.

    Summary

I hope TrueCrypt can add GUID partition table compatibility. I did donate the last time TrueCrypt worked for me.

"Extremely flaky even in light usage"

    April 16, 2012  |   By Lerianis4

    Version: TrueCrypt 7.1a

    Pros

    Small installer

    Cons

Extremely flaky, it will crash even when you have apparently done everything right and blow away your encrypted partition.

    Summary

It would be a good program if it was much more reliable than it is at the moment. I've personally created partitions to test TrueCrypt, only to have them become unreadable on a perfectly working drive within 2 weeks of creation.

    "Truly Encrypted"

    April 1, 2012  |   By Eradikator

    Version: TrueCrypt 7.1a

    Pros

Easy to use if you take a couple of minutes to read the how-to which is clear and concise. Price is better than outstanding -- it's free. Consider sending a donation once you've tried it; it's well worth it to ensure great programs such as this continue to come via "donation-ware". And the security of the encrypted files is legit. Put a super strong password for yourself on there and no one will ever get in without a great deal of time and effort. Oh yes, once you get it set up and put some stuff in it the files are really easy to get to, edit, move, whatever.

    Cons

This will not appeal to anyone who wants to install it an run it without reading the how-to. Otherwise, there are no cons in my opinion.

    Summary

I wish I would have tried this long ago when it was first released.

    "BSOD on Mount"

    March 26, 2012  |   By MikeyBfromTN

    Version: TrueCrypt 7.1a

    Pros

Free (But I'd pay for a working product)

    Cons

Cannot mount a simple file container without getting a BSOD. It's a sad thing when part of the program has an option for analyzing a system crash. meaning, they know it crashes your system.

    Summary

Free re-boot software, not a real program.
