"Updated Crapware"
Version: Trillian Astra 4.1.0.24
Pros
None that I can think of.
Cons
Now requires you to create an Astra account.
Summary
It's been a while since I've used Trillian. Previously all you did was install the software then manually setup the username/password for each of your IM accounts. Now it's yet ANOTHER password to remember.
The first time you start it up you have to login with your Astra username/password. Astra seems to be some crap that Trillian came up with. Why couldn't they just keep things simple? Why can't I just run trillian and select which IM servers I want to connect to without having to create yet ANOTHER account? I'm immediately uninstalling this software.
I was looking for an alternative to Yahoo! IM because it seems with each new version YIM has become more and more unstable. -
"Caused no end of problems - avoid."
Version: Trillian Astra 4.1.0.24
Pros
Nice looking interface.
Cons
Beware the extra unsolicited s/w. I wasn't expecting the Ask Toolbar to be installed on my browser and definitely not the Xobni add-in to MS Outlook. This caused me no end of problems, it completely messed up my system.
Summary
The basic Trillian interface looks quite nice, intuitive and easy to use. However, the unsolicited installation of Xobni and the Ask toolbar was really annoying. Xobni in particular caused me major problems in Outlook and even seemed to affect Sharepoint and all of my corportate network connectivity. I tried de-installing the software which didn't help. In the end I had to own up to our IT people and they restored the sytem from an earlier date in order to completely get rid of the the Trillian/Xobni/Ask software, much to their annoyance.

"Loaded Ask.com toolbar = BAD"
Version: Trillian Astra 4.1.0.24
Pros
none because i cannot get past the underhanded actions
Cons

Summary
untrustworthy company installed the ask.com toolbar even though I expressly chose NOT to install it during installation. TERRIBLE. AVOID.

"Good but not Great"
Version: Trillian Astra 4.1.0.24
Pros
Simple UI, puts all your IM services in one place, great notification system, handles multiple accounts well, nice interface, and a lot of different cool themes
Cons
Still in beta; a lot of crashes and bugs, some options available in the official IM are missing or hidden.
Summary
Would Really recommend for advanced computer users because of the neat interface and the large number of options, but I advice beginners to wait till the beta label is removed and a stable version is available.

"I didn't like it at all!"
Version: Trillian Astra 4.1.0.24

A very fast and powerful version. The way of notifications is also amazing
Cons
It kept not responding and it closed. I also couldn't know how to make the camera or atleast microphone work.

"Fast, simple, and just plain nifty."
Version: Trillian Astra 4.1.0.24
Pros
I can save memory space on my computer by uninstalling all the other IM programs, and having just this Juggernaut of a program to use.
Cons
Setup could be a bit more smooth, and the IM pictures could be bigger.
-
"Really like using 1 program for all IM accounts."
Version: Trillian Astra 4.1.0.24
Pros
Can quickly see Facebook and MySpace posts as well as ability to message friends from all IM programs I use regularly.
Cons
Sometimes for unknown reasons it will not connect to AIM accounts. It could be on the AOL side but I am not sure.
Summary
Excellent program.
-
"The ability to access multiple messengers together."
Version: Trillian Astra 4.1.0.24
Pros
I have friends on many networks and like a product that covers all of the networks I use.
Cons
I am too new to it to comment about cons but any programs can be improved upon.
Summary
I have used Trillian for years, since moving from AOL to MSN as my main messenger. With various excursions into other networks such as Skype and Yahoo groups I have accumulated many accounts and many messengers.
Earlier versions of Trillian had a more limited usage of video, and I had trouble with file transfers. So far I am able to connect with video, although jerky (but that may be my computer as I have too many programs running at once), and have been able to transfer files successfully.
I have only used it for a week now so I am still learning it, but I feel that I will grow to like it's various upgrades from what I've seen so far. -
"Go out and get it!"
Version: Trillian Astra 4.1.0.24
Pros
Love having all my services grouped into one program that uses less RAM. On the contrary to rsloan60's review there is no spyware nor security risks. I've used Trillian for years and have been super satisfied. I recommend it to everyone.
Cons
I've experienced problems with voice and data transfers, but they usually resolve themselves. Some people may want more features and not want to pay the license fee for the pro version.
Summary
Their product does what it says. Try to free version and if you want splurge on the paid version :-D
