"Excellent -- for 3 years now."

    June 14, 2007  |   By carlton99

Version: Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security 2007

    Pros

With the installation of TM PC-cillin IS 2007 in February, it has been providing me excellent protection for 3 years -- without a single infection. 'Nuff said? The automatic 'Halt Internet Traffic' feature works quickly and effectively to stop a direct attack (and has twice since February). What's feeling secure online worth to you? And you have the choice of installing the almost-daily updates instantly when they arrive, or when you want to stop what you're doing. I couldn't be more pleased.

    Cons

After giving it considerable thought, the only blip I can come up with on the negative side is the 2007 price increase. The program? -- its all good.

"Works great, but Customer Service is the WORST!"

    June 8, 2007  |   By Sukki007

Version: Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security 2007

    Pros

The product basically does what it's supposed to.

    Cons

Since downloading 2007 my computer is beyond sluggish. Often the program absolutely refuses to close after updating. It refuses to recognize any new programs and those annoying popups show up whenever I download something new, even if it's from Microsoft. But worst of all is what's been happening since my subscription expired on June 1st. They refuse to take my $49.95. I have tried using my main credit card at least 5 times, and a virtual credit card number a couple of times. After 2 days of trying, I sent an email. They took two days to respond and said that my multiple efforts probably locked it out. So I waited, then tried again, this time with a completely different credit card. Still nothing, but this time I got a different error message number. So I sent another email. That was six days ago, and there has been no response. Finally I searched for, and found, a toll-free number, listed under "Sales." However, when I called the first time, the guy who answered (from India, naturally), said that the number I called was actually tech support. I could order on the phone, but I would HAVE TO PAY FOR THE CALL! And there was nothing he could do. I was enraged by this, but called the "Sales" number again. This time I got a woman, still Indian, and she verified that it would be necessary for me to pay for that call. She did extend my subscription for two weeks to give me time to get the renewal in place.

This whole experience has been trying, and this level of customer service is simply inexcusable. They want me to pay them $50 a year, and when they leave my computer unprotected for what is almost 10 days because they can't respond to a damned email literally begging them to respond quickly, and then have the unmitigated gall to expect me to pay to call them to spend more money on their product, that is when I vote with my wallet. I'll be getting some other company's security program. Shame on you, Trend Micro.

    "Resource hog"

    June 8, 2007  |   By hab1945

Version: Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security 2007

    Pros

Good protection if you own an expensive computer with a good processor and plenty of memory.

    Cons

Trend Micro seem to have lost the plot. All previous versions were good and ideal for a home user and I would use nothing else. The 2007 version is far too heavy on memory resources. It is now really only for businesses who can afford a really expensive computer with plenty of resources. There are speedier and less resource heavy alternatives such as Zonealarm or in my case now, Avg Professional. Only for a powerful machine.

"This is the WORST software I have ever purchased!"

    May 27, 2007  |   By StevenHess

Version: Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security 2007

    Pros

    * * * N O T H I N G * * *

I wanted to give it ZERO stars but there is no provision for that...

    Cons

I was a huge fan of Trend Micro and recommended it to everyone I could. Until TMPCIS2007. I am terribly embarrassed and incredibly disappointed. I have to turn it completely off to get anything done on my computer. 100%CPU usage & 160 megs of ram? I can't even listen to an mp3 without it sounding like some bad techno remix. I waded though enough websites to come up with the SpybotS&D "fix" (uninstall a GREAT program) and that worked a very little bit for a very short time. Now it's even worse than before. I am removing the software from my personal computer and my company is removing it as well. I don't have a clue what they were thinking when they released this boat anchor. What a shame. I had really absolutely loved 2005 and 2006...

    "One headache after another"

    May 24, 2007  |   By SoapyMouth

Version: Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security 2007

    Pros

Prior versions 2005 and 2006 were great.Prompt email response in less than 24 hours.

    Cons

I had Webroot SpySweeper and SpyBot operating just fine with Trend PC-cillin 2006. After the first installation of PC-cillin 2007 there was a major slowdown in performance until finally the BSOD (blue screen of death) appeared.

I could not believe PC-cillin could be the problem so started removing several other programs instead and double checked all drivers. Finally, after checking the Temp folder I realize the 2007 upgrade was the program responsible for crashing my pc. So I contacted Trend MPC by email.Tech support failed to inform me before the second installation that SpySweeper would be a major conflict even though my original email clearly stated all my pc's security features. Second installation of PC-cillin failed to alert a conflict with Webroot's SpySweeper so I assumed it wouldn't be a problem. Mistake! Second installation was just as problematic as the first.

A third installation is now recommended by tech support once SpySweeper is removed. (SS is the better anti-spyware product not Trend's which is difficult to understand and impossible to reverse changes) Problem piling upon problems, now Adobe Photoshop has disappeared from the Start>All Programs menu completely. Such a mess. Could a virus do more harm than this anti-virus program? The only option tech support has offered is to remove Webroot SS. At this point, I'm tempted to completely remove Trend's products for good. Why should the consumer be stuck with an inferior anti-spyware product? Trend Micro should have provided alternatives like disabling the spyware feature like they had in 2006. Bullying tactics which do not respect consumers preferences are not good for business. Why didn't they just stick with their original product? By the way, TaskManager shows CPU usage varies from 2% up to 98%. PC-cillin 2007 is too greedy.

"Very good program, but makes your computer a little bit slow"

    May 19, 2007  |   By and_cobar

Version: Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security 2007

    Pros

It gives a very good antivirus protection and also ,a good antispyware protection, it even tells you what are the windows updates you need and gives a rating of how critical or important this update is!!

    Cons

well the only defect i found is tat it consumes a little bit of the system resources, ofcourse even the trendmirco people recommend a 512mb or higher ram, so you can understand by that

"Perhaps the best of all in year 2007."

    May 14, 2007  |   By darkdestiny7

Version: Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security 2007

    Pros

Although this software can't be compared with better names like BitDefender, but it's definitely one of the best out there. Switch from Norton to this by mistake, but it proved to be much better than my favorite Norton IS. Good interface and security features, including the Website Filter which helps me protect my siblings from unwanted content online.

It also has an excellent worldwide support, including an online chat service and an e-mail support service that replies within 48 hours!

And many other features that prove it to be one of the best internet security suite in 2007.

And if you want the filters to be on, the firewall must be installed. Unless you know of other alternatives to block all sites you don't want to see.

    Cons

Unlike firewalls like Comodo Firewall Pro, the firewall of this product does not check in or outgoing data, which is quite a pain.

And who says internet security suite scans really slow? Trend Micro may have taken 1 1/2 hours to scan, but an upgrade of RAM increased the speed of the scan by about 1/3! So next time, upgrade your RAM for faster speed!

Conflicts with just too many softwares like Spybot. So, real-time protection from other softwares other than PC-cillin ain't really a good idea.

Conclusion: Despite it's minor flaws here and there, PC-cillin Internet Security is still one of the greatest products out there. Although I'm not sure what to choose for next year, I believe that PC-cillin in 2008 will be more than excellent, if Trend Micro improve the firewall and perfected the anti-spyware and anti-virus protection of this product.
