Version: Trend Micro Internet Security 2008

    "BEFORE INSTALLING 2008, READ THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

    by sheba94601 on December 23, 2007

Pros: TM are good products but before downloading 2008 know that it's not compatible w/ Spy Bot, Spyware Blaster or Ad-Aware. Most importantly, there's uninstall issues which their tools presently cannot fix. All the techs I've spoken to seems to be unaware of this issue but I just googled it & found what I've enclosed below. I cant install another firewall nor reinstall the TM suites (or firewall) b/c I can't delete their driver which is under NETWORK adapters. A window comes up & says their product is already installed due to 2 miniport drivers that refuse to delete or uninstall! The techs will tell u to look under NONPLUG & PLAY DEVICES, which is where the older versions were originally installed, & send us tools for removal which don't work! READ THIS....

Cons: a. You must completely uninstall the Immunize feature of Spybot

Search & Destroy before starting to install Trend Micro

    Internet Security 2008.

    b. Installing the Trend Micro Internet Security 2008 drivers

and starting the services can take more than seven minutes.

    c. When upgrading from a Trend Micro Internet Security 2007, you

must upgrade the primary installation of the software first.

--> --> d. Uninstalling Trend Micro Internet Security 2008 and restarting

the computer fails to remove the Trend Micro TMTDI file from

the Windows Device Manager. <-- <--

    e. After providing a name, password, email address and location

on the Activate Trend Micro Internet Security 2008 page, the

Next button may not seem to respond immediately when clicked,

although the information has been sent.

    f. Upgrades from Trend Micro AntiVirus to Trend Micro Internet

Security 2008 will not work if the original software has a

build number higher than that of the desired software.

(note: c/NET doeswnt allow links 2 be posted but I googled this info under "how to remove trend micro 2008 driver?" then I hit the 1st link that came up, "textaskrá um internet security 2008 readme txt".

after UNINSTALLING the 2008 suite due to problems w/ their TM suites 08 & 07 firewalls being grayed out, etc..it didnt let me go back & reinstall my TM 2007(paid for) or reinstall the 2008 b/c the 08 Suite Driver doesnt remove itself during install, which we didnt realize yet. It took me 3 wks to finally get some REAL tech help b/c the other techs couldnt figure out the problem (i later found when i googled it, printed above). In the 3 wks I had to get someprotection but other anti virus software couldnt run properly w/ the 2008 TM driver still on my pc b/c it's not compatible. Regardless, AVG, Avast & SpyBot found trojans that TM 2007 didn't pick up.

I posted it here in case anyone else has the problem, not all thier techs know about this issue yet. But I got a GOOD tech who took over my pc from the Philipines & replaced my 07 suite w/ 08 prolonging my expiration date then fixed my PC. It runs better then ever & so fast. I tested it, he was right. With this new 2008 suite it doesnt need AdAware or Spybot. It cleans & works real good!!

I've run several security suites with other security tools, including SB, Ad-Aware, and others. You can't run two ANTI-VIRUS programs at the same time (not without registry tweaks, anyway), but the idea that you can't run additional security tools with ANY security suite is just not true. This is a TM problem, not a general security suite problem.

There's never a security suite that allows installation of other security tools.
