"A company not concerned with really doing business"
Version: TreePad Business Edition 7.7.3
Pros
You can actually type in text in the application and it is fairly secure
Cons
- it looks terrible - like Windows 2.0
- a product that is updated only every10 years
- terrible customer supportSummary
I purchased a license for the business edition about ten years ago - essentially, the application has not changed since then. It looked like a Windows 2.0 application back then, and for the most part it still looks like that. I am not saying that eye candy is the most important part of an application. But give me break. You at least expect the application to be as pleasant to use as the operating system you are using. This speaks of attention to detail, not just from a functionality standpoint, but from a GUI standpoint - it provides a more seamless integration with the OS, which in part, albeit small, helps with productivity.
- There are other uses here who have talked about poor customer support. I have experienced this in relation to needing to re-install the software on a system that died. I sent them an email, asking them to please send me my registration information so I could input the license data for the product. They sent an email back, saying that they could give me that information for a fee, if I gave them a credit card number! I have never had anyone do this, and I have requested quite a bit of registration information over the years. Granted, I should have kept better records of my registration system. But for them to want to charge me for it is moronic at best. Any company with such myopic vision from a customer perspective does not deserve anyone's business.
I was NOT going to do that, so I informed them that I would find a cracked version of the software so that I could re-install without having to pay the fee. I never got a response in any way.
I can think of many outliners that perform better than this one. One is the fee KeyNote outliner - picked up by someone as an open source application - http://code.google.com/p/keynote-nf/ . AllMyNotes is a great outliner type application that basically does what TreePad does - it is not quite as powerful from a feature standpoint, but it actually does what it says, and it is updated regularly. The one I use is TreeDBNotes - it has a LOT of functionality and it is kept up to date. You have a lot of options when it comes to this kind of software, so do not settle for something like TreePad, unless you just like a challenge in using an application.
AllMyNotes and TreeDBNotes are on cnet - The open source KeyNoteNF is not (the reason I included the URL). -
"Overall a good program"
Version: TreePad Business Edition 7.6
Pros
When I first tried the Treepad line of products, I was thrilled! Since then my estimate of the products has gone down somewhat, but I still like Treepad Business Edition.
Cons
Tech support could be better.
Summary
Worth a look see.

"TreePad is a important part of me"
Version: TreePad Business Edition 7.6
Pros
* It's a new paradigma. My world is in a tree, and the nodes contains text, images and links that I want. I can search in any subtree, etc.
* All relevant bookmarks, tips, information, hints I put in my Treepad in a single file.Cons
* The interface is cluttered.
* There are some small (but annoying) persitents bugs. (For instance, copy and paste to Word spoil the links)
* I'm forced to open one instance for each file opened. I don't want to buy enterprise version.Summary
It's my favorite shareware for years. No more words!

"Unbelievable gall from "support""
Version: TreePad Business Edition 7.6
Pros
Product concept is promising, would likely be a good product
Cons
Quirky operation, numerous bugs. "Support" provided only resentfully. LATEST: Report that Tree outline expand and collapse hot keys do not work. Response from "support": "We already made too many revisions to the product." Well, EXCUSE me!!!!
Summary
This software promises more than it delivers. The programmers appear to be in somewhat over their heads. Program operation not seamless, somewhat quirky. Interface is not especially intuitive. Numerous bugs, usually minor, but cumulative effect makes program increasingly less useful.
"Support" is usually provided resentfully, even arrogantly, if at all. LATEST: I reported that hot keys claimed to expand and collapse Tree outline pane do not work. (Actually, they work sometimes, but then affect other key operation, indicating a bug.) THIS IS AN OUTLINING PROGRAM, I.E., SAID HOT KEYS ARE NOT SUPERFLUOUS TO PROGRAM OPERATION. Response from Tech Support: "We already made too many updates to that program." Gosh, pardon me for asking you to do your job!
I am using the top of the line TreePad X Enterprise edition, having previously used the Business edition. One would think the publisher would be anxious to support, troubleshoot, debug its showcase version, but....
I admit, I've submitted quite a few bug reports, and I get the impression Tech Support is weary of hearing from me. Tough. I only report actual bugs and issues that render the program less useful than I bargained for. If the publisher carefully tested its own product, I would have nothing to report. Wishing for working hot keys to expand and collapse the outline in an outlining program doesn't seem to me to be an over-the-top request.
Tech support even recently assailed me for availing myself of offered free upgrades. Good grief, it was your choice to offer them! if you don't want users to have them, don't offer them!
This would likely be a very useful program if developed and published by a more conscientious developer. As it exists, it's okay if you're willing to live with a significant number of faults and compromises that will likely never be fixed. -
"Very very useful Note management software"
Version: TreePad Business Edition 7.1.2
Pros
I like its tree-like view & the file encryption feature of this software..
Cons
It is a little slow for files bigger than 2MB. It also could look a little better but all-in-all I would recommend it.

"Great Help"
Version: TreePad Business Edition 7.1.2
Pros
I already use it for years.
Apart from keeping my notes and thoughts structured there are 2 functions i really like.
The html export function:
Very quickly i can give my customers an url with structured information.
The catolog of files function:
I import the structure of all my mp3 dvd's en cd's. So it's easy to find on wich cd a particular song is.
Because of these functions it deserves 5 stars.
Cons
The calendar and agenda are not very useful for me

"It's good, but ..."
Version: TreePad Business Edition 7.1.2
Summary
... flawed in two areas. It dosn't search through out different open databases at the same time, so you're limited to which one you've currently activated. And, 2ndly, it isn't free. Whereas KEYNOTE is more powerfull, has the search feature I wanted, and is FREE and BETTER than this!
