"The worst Toast version yet--crashes and ruins discs"
Version: Toast Titanium 10.0.7
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I'm disgusted! This is the worst Toast version yet--it crashes and ruins discs and tech support just refers me to their website FAQs.
I had been using Toast 7 on my MacBook running 10.5.8 and it was OK but lacked features on Toast 9 Titanium that I use on my Mac desktop.
Toast 10.0.7 Titanium not only fails to work, it ruined my older Toast 7 so it does not work.
Toast 10.0.7 Titanium has a variety of error messages about "bad" or "unstable" disk connections which is ridiculous. It won't even burn a disc image it makes or other disc images that I have. However, my Disk Utility burns disk images and other files using the same internal DVD burner for internal and external disks.
Toast 10.0.7 Titanium is a lemonâ??avoid it! -
"Several frustrating bugs & DIRE customer support"
Version: Toast Titanium 10.0.7
Pros
Probably the largest feature set of any Mac disc burning app.
Polished user interface - pretty easy to do most common tasks.
Plug-in to support burning HD/Blu-ray discs (but some issues with this, see below)Cons
Several frustrating bugs which Roxio doesn't seem interested in fixing.
Customer Support is simply dreadful, unless you have a simple "finger trouble" issue. Possibly the worst tech support I have ever encountered.Summary
A number of frustrating bugs in latest versions, eg versions 10.0.3 to 10.0.7 will not include any text (such as track titles) on DVD menus on PPC Macs, quite a lot of issues encoding HD video for burning on to DVDs (rather than BDs), unexpected crashes.
Roxio/Sonic support is totally unhelpful. Don't seem interested in fixing bugs (the PPC menu text bug has been around for over 6 months). If you want to speak to support you have to use a premium rate phone number. You can file a trouble ticket online, but don't expect a meaningful response and don't expect them to bother reading your trouble ticket history before replying. User forums on Roxio site have quite a few posts from frustrated customers. However, there are several very helpful posters on the forums helping each other.
After weeks and weeks spent trying to get them to even acknowledge that my issue was a bug, they told me they would not offer any further support to me and eventually agreed to give me a refund (persistence paid off, I guess!).
Roxio/Sonic seem to have too few engineers working on Toast and their priority is to develop new versions, so they can charge you for yet another upgrade that doesn't do anything extra that you actually need (the MS Word model of software development).
If you don't need HD/Blu-ray support then Burn (available through Cnet) seems a better option and it's FREE. If you do need to burn HD/Blu-ray on a Mac then your options are pretty limited at the moment. -
"It does a lot easily"
Version: Toast Titanium 10.0.7
Pros
Working with video and audio can be difficult, but Toast makes doing a lot of things very easy. V10 would seem to have the functionality of many of the previously separate applications: Jam, Popcorn, Crunch. BR plugin allows me to put HD on a DVD.
Cons
Tivo app not for current OS.
Summary
If you do a lot of audio/video burning/converting on a Mac, Toast can save you lots of time. If you have lots of time and technical knowledge you could stick with the various free tools.

"Toast Works Good if you Make the Disc Image First !"
Version: Toast Titanium 10.0.7
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
David is right, Just make a Disc Image of what your Burning, use the Compression Check-Box if it's a Video File. If it makes a successful Disc Image, it will also make a successful Burn.
Never try to burn a huge 4.32GB File or DL 8.64GB File without making the Disc Image first, your only asking for problems. It sounds like some of you don't know how to do this so I will explain, When you have your Files ready to burn on the program, instead of Click Burn, Click on "Save as Disc Image" just to the left and above the Round Red Burn Button. Then it will save the File to your Desktop (Or where you select), then quit Toast. Then Start-Up Toast Again and then double-click on the Disc-Image File you just made of your Files/Movie/Music
and it will be loaded into Toast for Burning. Then Just Click the Red Burn Button, it will Burn with no Problems for you now, Works every time. I been doing it this way since 1994 using Toast 3.0. That was a long time ago come to think about it. We were burning Mp3 files back then when most people did not even know what they were. Anyway, Hope this Helps Some Of You.
And if your having many crashes while burning it could also be not enough RAM issue, or Corrupt System Files. Try Trashing all the old Prefs, and System Files For the Toast Program
and install the Program Fresh again.
I seem to never have any problems with the Toast Updates, I am using a 2x2.66 Dual Core w/16 GB RAM and 10.5.8 on one drive and 10.6.x on the other.
There is nothing wrong with Letting People know about other Software options while commenting here, there are some good free burning software options out there and it's nice to see people helping other people out.
