    "Works flawlessly in the background."

    December 11, 2009  |   By lrugolo

    Version: TimeMachineEditor 2.5.1

    Pros

Once it is set up, it requires no further maintenance. The price (free) can't be beat.

    Cons

Setting up TimeMachineEditor is confusing. It isn't made clear that after turning off Time Machine, it should be left in the off position. (See ?Bottom-line summary? below)

    Summary

The TimeMachineEditor instructions read: ?Time Machine automatic backups must be turned OFF while TimeMachineEditor handles the backups scheduling by itself.? The key word here is ?while? -- I interpreted that to mean that Time Machine should be turned off only while TimeMachineEditor is being set up. What happened was that after choosing the TimeMachineEditor settings, I would repeatedly go back to the Time Machine Prefs and turn it back on. Of course, the TimeMachineEditor settings were gone and Time Machine reverted to its hourly backups. I eventually learned, on your web site's FAQ, that
?TimeMachineEditor handles the scheduling itself and has its own ON / OFF switch (which behaves very much like the one from Time Machine).? I think that this statement should be included with the download info accompanying TimeMachineEditor.

"It simply works. It should be part of Time Machine."

    December 4, 2009  |   By hmumd

    Version: TimeMachineEditor 2.5.1

    Pros

Simple application that keeps Time Machine from interrupting my workflow and, I suspect, saves back up space.

    Cons

You have to stop Time Machine in the Preference panel to make changes.

    Summary

As someone else said, Apple should have thought of it.

    "Seems to work OK"

    November 3, 2009  |   By DavidTyler

    Version: TimeMachineEditor 2.5

    Pros

Seems to work OK although TimeMachine still says that it will back up every hour. That makes it difficult to know when it will back up.

    Cons

Seems to work OK although TimeMachine still says that it will back up every hour. That makes it difficult to know when it will back up.

"Price is right and does what it's advertised to do."

    October 28, 2009  |   By rkaufmann87

    Version: TimeMachineEditor 2.5

    Pros

Works well in Leopard and Snow Leopard. Easy to install and use. Set it up once and forget about it.

    Cons

    I don't see any negatives.

    Summary

If you want to do TM backups but don't need them to be done hourly TimeMachineEditor gives you the control to tell TM how often it will back up. Great little product. I recommend it.

"Price is right and it works."

    October 21, 2009  |   By donpaske

    Version: TimeMachineEditor 2.5

    Pros

It works fine and, being free, you can't beat the price. It would be nice if it gave more options, but all I really wanted was for Time Machine to stop backing up every hour: now, with TimeMachineEditor, I backup once a day.

    Cons

    Not too many options available.

    "Good, but not great."

    October 13, 2009  |   By tburnham

    Version: TimeMachineEditor 2.5

    Pros

The program does add a bit of control to Time Machine.

    Cons

There are so many ways it would be nice to control Time Machine, like scheduling back-ups of different data to different locations.

    Summary

This program falls into the category of programs that add too little value for the space and complexity/density it adds to my machine.

"Works flawlessly -- in the background."

    October 11, 2009  |   By lrugolo

    Version: TimeMachineEditor 2.5

    Pros

It gives the Mac user more control of the backup process.

    Cons

There are no downsides that I can see.

    Summary

    Updated on Oct 29, 2009

Ever since I upgraded my OS from 10.5 (Leopard) to 10.6 (Snow Leopard), TimeMachineEditor doesn't work properly anymore. Many times I have set Time Machine to back up just once a day; ?Interval - Backup every 24 hour? and ?Calendar Intervals - Daily at 10:00 PM?. TimeMachineEditor reports that the new settings have been applied, but then Time Machine reverts to the once-an-hour default schedule.

    "A Necessary Option"

    August 25, 2009  |   By gbcurtis

    Version: TimeMachineEditor 2.2

    Pros

I can pick a back-up interval other than one hour, but don't go too far along the timeline.

    Cons

Hard to think of one as the product does what it was represented to do.
I, too, wish I could specify a variety of back-up locations automatically, but ... .

    Summary

I will use this on ALL my computers.

    "Good, but not great."

    August 25, 2009  |   By tburnham

    Version: TimeMachineEditor 2.2

    Pros

The program does what the publisher claims and provides some control over TimeMachine's operation.

    Cons

The program's function is not valuable enough to warrant running it with such a critical function (data back-up).

    Summary

If it did more, like letting the user select both the time AND destination(s) of back-ups, it might be worthwhile.
