Amusing animation and cheerful tunes combined with excellent gameplay make this hospital simulator one of the better economic strategy games on the market. Created in the late 1990s, this game is still visually pleasing. Patients at your hospital have goofy diseases such as "Bloaty Head," "Slick Tongue," or "Invisibility." Your overall goal is to build new rooms, furnish them with equipment, hire and train staff, manage hospital prices, and sometimes even decide if your doctor should trust a supposed diagnosis and attempt a risky treatment--with the possibility of a patient's death--or just send the patient to another hospital. Be prepared to watch how your staff will cure these ailments: they may simply replace the overblown head with a normal one using a special deflation machine; they may cut the long tongue; or the invisible patient will drink a violet potion at your pharmacy to become visible. The creativity of the developers is a constant source of amusement in Theme Hospital, and also provides an excellent gaming experience. The music is lighthearted, and a female voice that announces patients to the ward comes up with witty remarks such as, "Patients should be patient." Although the demo version of this game has some serious limitations, it's still a kick to play doctor. Note that you can run Theme Hospital in Windows XP if you set Windows 95 compatibility mode.

Publisher's description

From Bullfrog Productions Ltd. :

Just as in real life, you have to make your hospital function, carefully using your resources to good effect, healing and repairing the sick and injured, and giving yourself a warm feeling inside. Of course, things can go wrong, and when you're facing a psychiatric ward full of Elvis impersonators, you'll think you're the one who's going to need to lie down on a couch. While the attraction of casualty-style blood and guts is obviously there, the development team is keen to keep it to a minimum. All movements and animations are fluid; everything moves as it would be in real life. To add to the realism, other computer players are playing against you, creating and running their own hospitals; if you have access to a network, up to three other players can play. The network game is an all-out war: poaching staff from the other hospitals, balancing budgets, attracting your competitors' patients, and researching new cures and machines.
