    "not really supported any more"

    July 28, 2001  |

    Version: TheBrain 3.02

    Summary

It seems that PersonalBrain is not really supported any more. They do not answer support questions for PersonalBrain users, they have stopped offering the "ThinkTank" where PersonalBrains could have been published, there is no new version for over a year, they have killed the mailing list.

"Excellent tool, but not for its declared purpose"

    June 19, 2001  |

    Version: TheBrain 3.02

    Summary

This program works extremly well for connecting ideas in a flexible and an associative way. It would serve writers very well. The company suggests using it for organizing files and folder in one's computer, but for this purpose, windows explorer is a more logical and comfortable tool. There si one bad thing about this software --that there is no documentation regarding known bugs. There are not many of them, though. I used to run it on two computers without problem, but could nowhere find a hint why it tended to crash on a third system.

    Version: TheBrain 3.02

    Summary

Exellent product, works with every kind of file and puts it together in a thought-oriented enviroment. If you are free to think about data in an different way (which isn't 1:n), you'll be amazed by this product. Can't wait for release 2.0!!

    "Outstanding, Stimulating Interface"

    May 15, 2001  |

    Version: TheBrain 3.02

    Summary

On a hunch, I decided I would take the plunge and download Personal Brain and see how it handled things. I didnt expect alot. But, I was plain supersurprised!!! I started using the program, and it is now a steady part of my daily routine. Its faster, easier and much more fluid than anything Microsoft has. It allows you to associate thoughts in multiple places which you cant really do with anything else I know of. The interface is just plain kewl and very intuitive. I dont know why others say its "hard" to use. I think its because they find it difficult to remove the Microsoft "brain programming" they have had all their life, and try to use their brain again. I find the program VERY fascinating, easy to use, and the web presence of other "brains" is also something to really examine. The WebBrain site is very useful. I would WHOLEHEARTEDLY endorse this!

"Interesting concept, but how best to use?"

    February 15, 2001  |

    Version: TheBrain 3.02

    Summary

I'd been looking for a better way to organize digitically and this program uses the same "mind mapping" principle I employ when problem solving or organizing my thoughts. It has an pleasant looking, easy-to-use interface. My version (1.74) has been very stable thus far (typically I run Office 2000 and Quicken on Windows 98). That's the good news. The bad is I haven't integrated it into my work as much as I'd hoped. The examples given on the vendor's web site typically are user-provided outlines of web sites and don't apply to my needs. A minor complaint: One must be careful when adding graphics to the "thoughts" or else the program distorts the image into the program's unstated preferences. Bottom line: It's a pretty solution in search of the right problem. I just haven't found it yet.
