    Version: The Ultimate Troubleshooter 4.64

    "Good product, but no support...."

by deenerlyn on August 18, 2008

Pros: Specific directions for how to handle each file so you always know exactly who created the file, what program it is part of and how to handle any problems.

Cons: Lack of support; Services function freezes program and computer; housekeeping task check-off list is annoying

Summary: The greatest feature of TUT (The Ultimate Troubleshooter) is that it provides customized instructions for each known file. Almost all other similar software does not; they leave you to figure out what the file is and how to handle it all on your own, which can cause irreparable problems. TUT explains who created the file, what program it is part of, why it is running and the recommended action to take to keep your computer running efficiently. For that feature alone, the software is worth buying if you are a new or timid computer user.

TUT does a great job of identifying tasks, startups and provides you with a great overview of your computer hardware setup.

Once you commit to a version, it is difficult and expensive to upgrade to new version. You either have to renew the version you have indefinitely or pay more for a completely new version. They need to have an 'upgrade' option, a middle price that includes the latest version as a reward for faithful users.

The Services tab/function identifies services well, but it is very difficult to make changes because the TUT program freezes when on the Services tab. All other functions work correctly, but clicking on the services tab will freeze the program and sometimes your entire computer. (The services tab identifies programs that mostly work in the background.) I have a high-end super performance computer and this is the only software that causes me performance issues.

Support is nil, which is disappointing for a paid-for product. I tried for a year to get help with the above mentioned services tab issue. And I had license renewal issues that I never received answers for either. I uninstalled the product after trying to renew my product for over two months. I really utilized the program too, so it's a shame.

This is a very strange post from our point of view.

First, TUT has a well publicized YEARLY UPDATES and UPGRADES RENEWAL feature, and hundreds of thousands of users renew once a year, so it s very strange that this user felt she had to purchase TUT every time she needed to update it - there is an UPDATE button inside TUT for the user to update it !

Also, while we can see she bought TUT in 2006 and again in 2007 (when she could have just renewed much more cheaply), we have no record of her ever emailing us about her SERVICES tab problem. She must have been emailing some other company, but certainly not us. In any case, this problem would have to be a PC specific problem as we would not have the number of users we have AND we would be out of business !
