Version: The Seed Program 3
"The Only Program of its Kind"
Pros: As this seems to be the only program offering garden planting organization and scheduling, I'm glad it's as good as it is. The first thing to do when you get it is to input the dates of the first and last frost in your area. From there, you input the information about every seed you plan to plant, and TSP keeps them organized - you can print out a planting schedule that lets you know what to plant how and when. You can even customize this report to get all the information you find most useful. It's helped me stay on my toes about starting seeds as early as possible to be sure to get in a long and productive growing season.
Cons: The biggest problem I've encountered with this program is that printing out your planting schedule is an all-or nothing deal; if your printer jams up midway through, and you only need the last four pages of the report, you'll have to either reprint the entire schedule or "print" to PDF and use Acrobat Reader to select the pages you need.
A minor irritation with the program is the lack of any sort of resources to find the frost dates in your area - these were surprisingly hard to find on Google. A utility within the app to input your zip code would be nice, but a link to a decent website offering this information would suffice.
Another minor irritation has been that the Maintain Crops screen makes it easy to accidentally delete information about crops when trying to add a seed not in the included database.
In a perfect world, this program would receive periodic updates via internet with a broader crop database, but the program is very helpful as-is.
