Apparently some people don't get the "opt out" prompt and some do. The prompt is supposed to pop up after the KMPlayer installation is complete. There is a forum on KMPlayer's site where this is being discussed:

Thanks to Seth Rosenblatt for finding and providing me that link. If I figure out why this happens, I'll post again. I forgive them for this bug because it doesn't appear to be intentional. -
You are absolutely right that there is NO OPT OUT option available. Ask Toolbar installed for both FF and IE automatically (I use Opera so I didn't notice this until I read your review). On KMPlayer's site they included "- ASK Toolbar installation added" in their change notes for 1435. I never thought to check for that and simply downloaded & installed it.
Don't be mad at CNet though. Their review was a year ago and it wasn't until the September 2009 update that KMPlayer started including Ask. I'm contacting CNet about this so they can adjust the review and probably the rating (like they did for Digsby chat client when they pulled a similar stunt).
I'm very disappointed in KMPlayer for this. I have been using their player for a couple years. It is an excellent media player, but without giving an Opt Out option for Ask Toolbar, I just might switch to the VLC Media Player for feeling violated. -
It has a very labeled clearly "opt-out" in the installation window.
