Text handling is acceptable, but not great. The software's main strength is organizing and storing writings and related reference materials. There is a discounted student rate available for the software.
Cons
The built-in backup is virtually worthless. There are little word processing-related features missing, which are common in other programs not geared toward writers. The technical support and customer service provided by the company is very poor.
Summary
The Journal is a volatile program. I diligently used the included backup feature, only to have all of my work vaporize in an instant. (I had a power failure, and my Journal files were corrupted after the reboot.) The technical support from davidrm.com was provided in a limited manner. It was drawn-out in sporadic e-mails over weeks. I repeatedly asked for phone support -- even one phone call -- but that request was ignored every time. I even stated that I would pay for the phone call, but got no reply to that request. I tried everything suggested, and then anything else I could think of, all without success Despite my best efforts, and the minimal assistance from The Journal's technical support, I was unable to recover ANY of my data. I lost months of work, some of which is truly not replaceable. Simply put, the risk of losing my work is just not worth the minimal advantages of using the software.

I couldn't figure out how to do anything with this program, and the help files weren't useful either. I could not find where to add an entry, sort/organize, etc. It shouldn't take me 2 days to get this thing running.

I would like to see a better, more attractive and modern veiw. It looks a bit old and outdated. Also would like to install video clips into a daily journal. Right now I can but it has to be a very small file size.

Overall the best journal software. I have tried and purchased other journal software. This software is the best because of the options you can do for your journal. I have been using it for several years now. I still enjoy it very much. Thank David for a great product and support.

I had difficulty with 1 item when I first bought the program. DavidRM responded immediately. I have tried scrapbook journaling, written journaling...& found I never could keep at it. This journal has so many given topics as writing hints besides allowing the writer to choose his own topic. It allows for wide variations in learning styles and ways to organize. It is simple to find an earlier entry for whatever reason. ALSO, SEVERAL PEOPLE CAN USE 1 license on 1 computer and 1's writing can be protected with a password.

I did hours of researching before purchasing a journaling software program. I am a teacher who earned her B.S. Degree at age 20.

This is the first software I've ever seen like this, but I love it!!! Especially the Memory Grabber demo! After my trial runs out I am DEFINITELY buying it!! I'm so excited to have a completely private journal on my computer!
Cons
It is a little hard to understand at first, but once you read the samples and the instructions, you're golden.

"Can't get any better!"

The Journal is so easy to use, password protected and searchable. I have used this software for the last 3 years at least (I kept meaning to write a review, but I?m a procrastinator too!) I say that it?s ?searchable? because I recently won a small claims judgment against a contractor (he didn?t finish the project at my house) because of the notes that I kept on The Journal. I was able to do a search on the contractors name in The Journal and all of my entries were there. I printed it out and turned this in to the judge on the court date and I think it helped him make his decision. I also use it to track weight loss (or gain!), recipes that I've tried and everything I want to keep track of. The "search" feature is great for the forgetful or someone who can't remember where they put everything. (I.e. "next 4th of July, the bottle rockets are in the bottom drawer." True story!) Very easy to use and well worth the money!

All the features work well together and everything functions perfectly. It takes no time at all to get used to the interface and I liked how it locks itself after inactivity, so someone cant just walk up and read everything if you leave it open. Give it some time and try out all its features. I use this program every day and would full heartedly recommend it to anyone!
Cons
it might be better to have the options all in one place rather than laid out across the whole program, but it is sufficient.
