Version: The GIMP 2.4.2
"Lots of features but no on-line help"
Pros: Feature Rich, better than some commercial low end products.
Cons: Very difficult to figure out. Program could benefit by some embedded Help files.

I'm pretty sure you have to download the help files separately.

There's a Help button at top, opens up a help section and also shows a link to a User Manual. You want more? Put gimp into a search engine and you should find a downloadable copy of Grokking the Gimp, as well as Gimp Tutorials and the Gimp Users Group, amongst others. Borrow Beginning Gimp from your public library and there's information in the back on how you can download it in pdf format for 10 USD.
