The brush settings appear to be fixed, but there is probably some way to change them.

Relatively small footprint at less than 100 meg.
Many taylorable options.
Healing function, levels, curves, context sensitive help (some not current).
Most functions available with right-click on the mouse.
Free.
Cons
The image editing window is not a fixed size and will not remember it's prior size or location between large images. It takes almost as long to get the edit image window into a working size/position as to make edit changes. The edit window rates 2 stars on my dual monitor system.

The Gimp does many incredible things with photos. I have been using it for a couple of months and find it fits my needs very well from scanning images into my computer to correcting the photos after scanning.
Cons
Haven't found anything I don't like about it yet.
