    "Freeware Photshop.....awsome!!"

    February 23, 2006  |   By Terran_Male

    Version: The GIMP 2.2.10

    Pros

After several years of using both Paintshop Pro (Corel) at home and Photoshop (Adobe) at work, I have switched to The Gimp. After a weekend of putting this software through it's paces-I do webwork at home (moonliting ;>) )and had a backlog when Paintshop's liscense ran out. I tried the Gimp out of frustration. After 2 all day work-a-thons I uninstalled Paintshop. The Gimp does EVERYTHING that paint and photoshop does, but faster and a hell of a lot cheaper. I am in love. If you can use either paint or photoshop, you can use the gimp. Its worth the slight pain to install.

    Cons

The interface isn't quite as polished as photo or painshop. Its a little clunky, and this makes it a little hard to get used to. No email support like the big boys, but there are forums (put gimp+forum in google) everywhere for help. It can be a bit overwhelming for NooBs, but not insurmountable. Forums + patience = success.

    Version: The GIMP 2.2.10

    Pros

I have been Looking for this type of program for months, and i really thought I was going to have to Buy the Extortional Photoshop.

From what i can see, this software is Basically a Free Version of Photoshop. I am blown away!

You can edit, manipulate, create and add stunning effects to your digital images, and create your own graphics for your website. Quite simply Wonderful.

Also it uses up less system resources than photoshop and loads very quickly! Five stars from me

    Pros

Very good program, you can use it for the simple things or more proffesional things and best of all ITS TOTALLY FREE, I would highly recommend it for anyone who wants a good application to edit their photos and anyone who is still using the ole default photo editor in the OS or paint program. Very satisfied with this program.

    "It's great"

    January 28, 2006  |   By NotMyProblem

    Version: The GIMP 2.2.10

    Pros

Maybe it's not like Photoshop but just good enough. It is easier to use. At least it load up faster than Photoshop and use less memory. Chances is you may not need Photoshop at all, and it's free.

    Cons

Need to test drive a bit first before doing some real work.

"The Poor Man's Photoshop (And more!)"

    January 26, 2006  |   By jpez

    Version: The GIMP 2.2.10

    Pros

The GIMP is free, but don't let that fool you. For all practical purposes, this is photoshop. If photoshop has it, so does the GIMP. Don't pirate photoshop if you can't afford it, just get the GIMP. To those who already own photoshop, I would reccomend trying the GIMP out and possibly keeping it as a complement to photoshop. Almost all photoshop tutorials can be easily be done in GIMP, so flexibility is not a problem. The GIMP can also open photoshop documents, so don't worry about compatibility. GIMP uses scripts written in Scheme in lieu of plug-ins. This means that there are tons of plug-ins that can do anything imaginable, from creating logos to creating ripply GIF animations.

    Cons

The GIMP's only problem is its relatively clunky interface (when compared to photoshop). Each panel is a separate window, so they can get lost if you are using other applications at the same time. Fortunately, you should only need one panel if you use tabs on one main panel, plus the tool palette. A little practice should find you using the GIMP just as efficiently as photoshop.
