    "An intermediate technology..."

    July 27, 2008  |   By solo247

    Version: TextAloud 2.274

    Pros

Good install, clean inter-face, easy to use, open all file types as stated, including pfd files, which most similar software cannot do.

    Cons

The speech technology is lousy! Real choppy and distorted voice, and even the adjustment features do not help clarify the vocals. It would give you a terrible headache if you decide to go through anymore than a few pages of texts!

    Summary

Save your money and buy another software with better speech technology built-in.

    "Outstanding product"

    March 23, 2008  |   By bdevoted365365

    Version: TextAloud 2.274

    Pros

When used with AT&T Natural Voices (Mike and Crystal) - a separate purchase - this program rocks! Unlike every other computer engine and voice I have tried, Crystal sounds like a real person, not like computer-generated speech. I have used this program for almost 2 years and love it! The accuracy of pronunciation is very high. Errors are quite rare, and only occur with 1) words whose pronunciation vary depending on the context, and 2) words that are seldom used. Nextup/TextAloud gives a discount if you buy AT&T's (or other) voices at the same time you buy the TextAloud program.

    Cons

The basic speech engine in TextAloud sounds like a computer-generated voice. If you expect TextAloud to sound like a real human without buying advanced voices, you'll be disappointed.

"Wonderful Voices That Can Be Bought with the Software"

    June 28, 2006  |   By lem729

    Version: TextAloud 2.173

    Pros

There are wonderful voices that can be bought with the software. The state of the art is much higher than I had thought. One can listen to these computer voices read and enjoy it. The software permits you to correct mispronunciation, insert pauses, etc. It also comes with a toolbar for Firefox and IE, and keyboard shortcuts that make it quite useable with Opera also. Apparently additional support for Opera and Microsoft Word is on the way.

they have Add-on for IE,Firefox, and Outlook you can directly play from the app without the need to copy/paste. spoken words are highlighted if you choose LH Michael

    Cons

Small Bugs, there and there. for instance.

On firefox you can't choose read from cursor, but in I.E you can. On Firefox and Outlook spoken words are not highlited as it reads.
