"Same Horrible Taste More Damaging! Absolute Data Killer"
Pros
None. This is absolutely a horrible piece of software engineering and will cause data loss when given a chance.
Cons
Unreliable. Crashes. Hangs. Destroys directories. Does NOT back up the directory of the drive you really want it to. WARNING: Causes Data Loss AND causes HARD DRIVE BECOMING UNUSABLE.
Summary
I never learn. After being ripped off with false promises of "free next version if you buy this", not getting those, getting a copy after complaining to them and finding it did not work, etc. I was suckered in again, this time by the MacUpdate promo bundle for $50 for 12 programs. TechTool Pro 6 immediately proceeded to make that cost turn into $500.
The first drive that I used it on, which was giving me problems, could not be fixed by this program, which would keep crashing or hanging. I finally gave up and formatted the drive and restored from a backup. Next, I ran TTP6 on my external drives and rebuilt the directories on them. (I ran Disk Utility before and that showed no errors in either).
TTP6 showed some positive changes from a directory rebuild so I went ahead and applied those. Result, not only did one drive become unbootable until I formatted it and restored using disk utility,
The second drive was so badly damaged that now Disk Utility & TTP6 hang when I try to format or partition it! I have just had to literally throw away a 160GB Lacie drive that had served me fine as a backup drive until I ran TTP6 on it tonight.
AVOID TECHTOOLS PRO 6 like the plague that it is.
