"Many advantages in corporate setting; PROBLEMS for..."

    Version: TealLock Standard Edition 6.41

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I downloaded this on trial. It seriously screwed up my palm. I would trial it before buying and use it with caution.

The selectivity available was great and the controls are easy to use. The manual is detailed and well written I wanted to just encrypt a small file of passwords etc and password protect the memos database and all documents created by an app called brainforest. Easily, slickly accomplished.

So far, so (mostly) good. Everything locked up and encrypted, my paranoia well calmed. On day two though, I was disappointed to notice that the memos were accessable through DateBk6.

A day or two after that, the palm crashed with a datamangr error. Soft reset, but when teallock's splash screen came up wanting A password, it would not accept MY password.

I stayed locked out for two days. Hard resets with restores from on card backup and 2 hotsynced computers not only didn't help, they seemed to infect the desktop computer wwith the problem.

I finally fixed it (I'm a bit of a loner and was determined to fix it without calling teallock) by deleting all files with the words teallock (come in a group of 6) from everywhere on the desktop. Then able to get to the factory new screen after hard reset. Then hotsynced to load filez only. Then another hunt to delete all teallock files on the palm itself.

Even after this the machine was implacably locked after a hotsync to restore all files. What finally solved the problem was to install a new password onto the factory settings machine. I was still asked for a password when the whole system came up, but now it was the password I had set.

Teal may have an elegant solution for this problem, although it seems that an elegant solution would also mean the bad guys could elegantly bypass the security.

Having a security system fail in a way that locks the legitimate user out even after a hard reset is a REALLY a hassle and Teal lock did that to me.

    "Peace of Mind"

    June 5, 2005  |   By bailin

    Version: TealLock Standard Edition 5.50

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Years ago on a business trip I lost my Treo600 that contained personal information (including, stupidly I know, CC and SS#s) and documents. After that incident, I researched locking programs and found TealLock. Easy to configure and reasonably priced, I have upgraded this program ever since. I've had peace of mind ever since.
BTW, For the truly paranoid, in addition to TealLock, I also suggest Splash ID - another fabulous program - that provides additional security for personal data.
