"Current version bundled with unwanted adware"

    February 28, 2013  |   By tchntm43

The program itself is as useful as the other comments mention.

The current version comes with bundled software that nobody in their right mind would want on their computers. See Summary for details.

During the installation, it requested to install WhiteSmoke Toolbar. You do not want this. Firefox identifies it as a known stability and security vulnerability. You can remove it after installing it. Make sure to remove both the browser plugin as well as removing it from your computer's Add/Remove programs.

While it was nice that it at least asked about WhiteSmoke, it did not ask permission before installing the other two nasty programs. The first is called Iminent. Do a google search on this and you'll find loads of reports about this being a browser redirecting malware, sometimes it is referred to as a "click-jack". This is installed as a program onto your computer. There was no browser plugin to remove. Some users report being unable to remove this, and that it disabled Malwarebytes, but I did not encounter that problem. The second additional program is called GetSavin. This is another seemingly innocent "toolbar" that is adware... it throws ads for its website when visiting other webpages. There is no reason for any sane person to want this installed. Fortunately, very easy to uninstall.
