"Seriously cool program!"
Version: Tag&Rename 3.5.7
Pros
I have used this program for years now (since 2000) and it remains my favorite and most used program of all time! I don't know how I would manage my music collection without this! It was well worth the money to purchase and the lifetime updates are awesome! Tag-n-Rename originally started out as a MP3-only tag editor, but I appreciate how much it has been expanded since (although I still primarily only use MP3s). I have NEVER experienced a stability issue in the many years I have been using this software (and on different PCs) and it always loads quickly and gets the job done every time!!! Absolutely LOVE it and big kudos to the developer for a simply wonderful piece of software!
Cons
While I am totally pleased with this excellent product, I confess that I do wish it edited more file types (namely video files). It does edit WMV files at least, but I hardly use that type for anything. Still, I am more than happy with it and will continue to use it and recommend it for years to come I'm sure!
Summary
If you're thinking about whether or not to buy the full version, DO IT! This is an awesome program and I really have been using it for YEARS - since 2000! Take it from someone who has truly put this to the test. It's a fine program and absolutely worth the money to purchase!!!!

"permanently messed up my library"
Version: Tag&Rename 3.5.7
Pros
I hate this product
Cons
1) Crashes easily
2) Can't undo more than one step back if you're lucky
3) Can't undo at all for id3 renamingSummary
I highlighted around 300 songs that had incorrect id3 tags and asked the program to find the right ones using the Amazon.com database. It came up with the correct album for the first song I had highlighted. Great!...so I clicked OK and let the program do it's thing. Well it ended up updating all the songs I had highlighted with the id3s of that one album. So all 300 songs now have an id3 tag that say they're from the same album. I tried to undo it but the undo button was grayed out. So I clicked on one of the songs to see if it would rescan it and find the correct id3 tags, but it's now stuck thinking that it already has the correct id3 tag. And I can't find any software to undo this. Music Brainz Picard is supposed to be able to work by analyzing the musical signature of the mp3 but I can't get it to work cleanly for multiple files at once. So now I'm stuck manually rewriting my id3 tags...
Even if I didn't have this problem, this product would be useless for me. I have over 350 GBs of music. Trying to load more than a few albums at a time makes the program crash (and most programs I've tried actually). And even if it could load it all up, it's not flexible enough to actually organize my music the way I want it. If you have a small collection and don't mind changing things an album or 2 at a time I suppose this software can be useful. But considering that you can't undo some actions, you better really know what you're doing or you could permanently screw up your collection like I did. Luckily I was experimenting with music I don't really care about. -
"Fantastic Program, a powerful timesaver."
Version: Tag&Rename 3.5.7
Pros
Options galore, extremely customizable, powerful batch actions. You might think that such complex features would create a large learning curve, but the software is actually quite intuitive.
Tag&Rename cut the task of organizing my large, disorganized music collection down to a fraction of the time it would have taken without it. That alone was worth the cost. Since then, I have found myself continuing to use it quite often. Tying in free online databases for album art and info is a great feature.
Renaming doesn't stop at using variables for file names. Tag&Rename goes a step further and allows you to use variables to create folder structure as well.Cons
Not much to complain about here. A couple small things could be improved. Using checkboxes to make a selection allows you to add to a playlist, but does not work for "copy to folder". The application window can only be resized down to about half my screen, and sometimes I'd prefer to have two windows open side-by-side in more of a 70/30% split.

"Almost pulled a 10"
Version: Tag&Rename 3.5.7
Pros
Gem of a program, go's about its' business in a workmen like fashion. Was able to start using in a few minutes...nice interface, preview option was great, the undo button was even better.
Cons
it was the programers lack of attention to detail keeps it from five stars. the lack of a comment bubble when you hover over something and drop list for artist/albums the user already has reduces cut/paste for manual edits, plus a few others
Summary
Soild program could use some touch ups. if the programmers paid attention to the litttle things it would be perfect. when it works (about 90% of the time) it is dream come true...when fails you; it fills like the task is just brushing against your finger nails. but hey it is free right if they work the bugs out may they could put add a donation tab.

"Does not fully support M4V tags"
Version: Tag&Rename 3.5.7
Pros
Seems like an ok tag editor for audio files
Cons
Does not support all of the iTunes video tag fields.
Interface looks like Windows 3.1 for workgroups.
Hard to navigate.
Whines when you uninstall it.Summary
I downloaded Tag&Rename to edit tags of M4V files in a faster way that with iTunes. I could not find any of the fields that I needed to edit such as Season Number, Episode Number, Show or Episode ID, basically the entire Video tab in iTunes. The interface looks pre-Windows 95 and is frankly ugly and a pain to navigate. I would look at Mp3tag as a preferable alternative for audio file tag editing.
